It was hugely inspiring to see so many students at Bushey Meads wanting to step up into a whole array of different leadership roles this year and attend a special and inspiring launch assembly on Tuesday morning of this week. All the students who were there had taken the time to formally apply for their roles and were clear from published job descriptions on the school website what their role entailed.

Associate Leader Mr Knowles reminded them all of what an important first step this was for them on an exciting journey of developing their leadership skills and abilities that will undoubtedly support them with future Sixth Form applications, job interviews, writing personal statements for university applications, work experience and future careers. Our Senior Students Leaders also presented to the students and provided advice and tips for how to be a successful student leader, reminding them that it’s not the badge that defines them but their actions and commitment to the role.

At Bushey Meads School we strongly encourage all students to take a full and active part in school life and recognise the significant contribution our student leaders make. With that in mind it was so encouraging to hear and see that over 300 student leadership positions had been filled and really inspiring to see the great variety of student leadership groups that have been started once again at the beginning of this new academic year. These include: Anti Bullying Ambassadors, ECO Leaders, Faculty Leaders, Student Parliament CDC Reps, House Leaders, Junior Prefects, Senior Prefects, Performing Arts Technicians, BMS Buddies, STEM Leaders, Student Learning Consultants, Student Librarians, Student Journalists and Mental Health Champions.

I would like to congratulate all the student leaders who have been successfully appointed. Each student leadership team will now be meeting with the member of staff overseeing their team and will be receiving their leadership badges and instructions and support as to how they can make a significant contribution to our school.
