Year 11/BMS Alumni v Watford Boys

Comment : Wow – what a brilliant evening of volleyball at Bushey Meads !

The Year 11 Boys volleyball team played their first competitive fixture with a match against Watford Boys last Friday. The team was joined by former student guest players Cameron, Vysnavan and Amaan who were the original founders of the BMS volleyball club a number of years ago. Their experience certainly raised the standard of the game for both teams. It was a fantastic event played in great spirit by 2 teams who are developing their skill level in an ever growing sport. The quality of the play from both teams was really impressive with both teams evenly matched. After 4 sets and the game tied at 2 sets each the game went into a final set with the Watford Boys team just coming out as winners. Well done to all those involved and great to see our former students who were fantastic role models throughout.

FOOTBALL

Year 9A Boys v SANDRINGHAM (County Plate Quarter- Final) AWAY Mr Cartledge

Date : Tuesday 3rd February 2026

Result : Won 5-1

Comment : An excellent team performance and an outstanding individual performance by N Gibson saw the boys make it through to the County Plate semi-final against a good Sandrinham team. The boys played some great passing football in the first half creating a number of chances with two of these well converted by N Gibson. Another really strong second half display saw the boys contain the opposition with a strong defensive display and then play some excellent counter attacking football. Some outstanding finishing from N Gibson saw him score all 5 goals capping off a fine individual performance. The whole squad can be proud of their efforts and we now look forward to the semi-final after half term.

CROSS COUNTRY 

Hertfordshire County Cross-Country Championships

Date: Saturday 31st January 2026

Last Saturday the Hertfordshire County Cross Country Championships were held at Westminster Lodge. With the recent rain, conditions were already really difficult with the hilly course extremely muddy making it a real challenge for the athletes. F Francos from Year 10 had qualified from the Watford District Championships to compete in the Intermediate Boys race for students in Year 10/11. He acquitted himself really well in a very competitive race finishing 35th in a field of over 70 runners – well done !

Result: Lost 25-21

Comment : The Year 10 boys lost another really competitive match narrowly going down to a 4 point defeat. A poor start on defence saw the boys training after the first quarter. However some much improved offence and defence as the game progressed saw the boys close the gap and some better shooting in the 3rd and 4th quarter would have brought the boys a win. Special mention to S McGrath who top scored again and well done to all the boys who showed great spirit and determination.

Comment: A difficult game today with a strong defensive side in Grange Academy. An immediate slow start in the game, and we were down by 2 early on. We really struggled today with our shooting and with wanting to drive to the basket to score. On the defensive side, we worked well; in the end, it was not enough, and we lost in the last quarter of the game. A tough afternoon, but more experience playing basketball under their belts. A learning experience all round.

 

GIRLS FOOTBALL

Junior Girls v Immanuel  (Friendly)  Home   Miss Sunpongco 

Date : Tuesday 3rd February 2026

Result : 11 – 0 Win

Commended performances : ALL! 

Comment : An amazing game to finish off the season for the year 7 and 8s. A nice friendly game to finish the season with. All together the 11 girls played in different positions and different combinations. A great start to the game with A Karakushi scoring the first goal within 15 seconds of kick off. This automatically pushed everyone on a positive drive to score more goals. Playing wide and showing great communication allowed for a 4-0 lead after half time. S Fintinariu assisted 3 goals in the first half! After half time, we had to play 1 player down but this was no barrier. S Henry came out of goal to assist and score some goals. The year 8s took up the back line ensuring a great defence wall. F Shire finished the match off with a powerful shot at goal. Well done to all and a great game! 

 

GIRLS NETBALL

Comment : This was a tough game from the start with the opposition strong in passing and interceptions. We were unlucky with our shots in the first quarter and our passing needed to be more accurate to gain possession. By the second half our passing improved and we gained more confidence in making interceptions. A determined and spirited performance.Well done ladies for not giving up and improved play during the match. 

 

 

Year 7 v St.Michaels  (District League) Away    Mrs Cooper

Date : Tuesday 3rd February 2026

Result : Lost 3-10

Squad : G.Cole, E.Ivory, L.Bosawa Bola-Sayo, C.Elliot, E-G Wakeling, A.Karakushi, N.Guyadeene, A.Gray 

Commended performances : C.Elliot a great effort in the centre position, showing real perseverance and high energy levels..

 

Comment : A cold and very wet night of netball for the year 7 team this week. With the game doubtful, due to the weather, it was decided we would ‘go for it’ and we took to the court in high spirits looking forward to a match for the first time in a few weeks. It was difficult conditions for both teams with the ball increasingly slippery due to the persistent rain. However the girls worked hard throughout doing their best to implement the skills they’d been working on at training in the past few weeks. Although the result was a little disappointing, St.Michaels deserved their victory, there were positives to take from the game; movement of the ball through the court, increased power in passes, better movement in the shooting circle and hopefully we will take these into next weeks (fingers crossed) drier fixtures!

Year 11 v St.Michaels  (District League) Away    Mrs Cartledge

Date : Tuesday 3rd February 2026

Result : Won 17-6

Squad : A Gibson, R Chudasma, H Sookhoo, V Hill, M Rumney, H Spendlowe,  A Belghiru.

Commended performances : M Rumney (fantastic shooting)

Comment : This was the last game of netball for the year 11 team. Unfortunately the weather was awful and so for the first quarter we had to try and keep hold of the ball as it was very slippy.! We pulled away from the opposition quite easily with some fantastic shooting from M Rumney and H Spendlowe. The girls went ahead by 10 goals at half time and with great movement down court and impressive interceptions by all players we extended our lead by 11 goals at the final whistle. Despite the cold weather and wet conditions the girls battled on and showed determination and strong team work. A special mention and thanks must go to V Hill who has played for the Year 11 team when the girls have been short and has been a very valuable and talented addition to the team.  

All players have been reliable and have improved massively over the years. It has been a privilege to watch their progress and I wish them all the best in their upcoming exams. Thank you girls for an enjoyable five years of managing your team

PE kit

It is essential that students have the full correct PE kit for all lessons. This includes shinpads and black /yellow socks when participating in football lessons and also a pair of white sports socks for all other activities. Students will be reminded when activities change. Students not bringing the correct kit will instantly receive consequence points.

Girls should be wearing plain black shorts which are longer than the length of their PE shirt or hoody. Leggings should be black sports leggings and not see through.  Black tracksuit bottoms are also permitted.

ALL jewellery should be removed prior to the start of the lesson, including earrings, and hair should be tied up.
