The Importance of Attendance: Insights from...

Government reports published this month have highlighted the critical links between student attendance and both GCSE results and future earnings, underscoring the importance of consistent school attendance for academic and long-term success.

According to the report, students who miss significant amounts of school are much more likely to see a decline in their GCSE results. In fact, the data reveals that students who miss more than 10% of school (90% attendance or below) are twice as likely to achieve lower GCSE grades compared to their peers with higher attendance.

The link between attendance and attainment

Further findings emphasize the link between school attendance and future earnings. The report shows that individuals who regularly attend school are likely to earn £10,000 more per year in their early careers compared to those with poor attendance records. This is because consistent education builds a strong foundation for skills and qualifications that are crucial in today’s competitive job market.

As we approach exam season, it’s a timely reminder for all students to prioritize their attendance and make the most of every learning opportunity. Strong attendance doesn’t just improve academic performance—it also sets the stage for future success and career prospects, as well as giving students vital opportunities to build relationships with their peers and participate in wider school life.
