Since her appointment at the start of the year, Jenna Statham, our Head Prefect has been rising to the challenge of her Senior Student Leadership role and leading the whole prefect team in an impactful way.  She is definitely leaving a very positive mark on the Bushey Meads community and I am very excited about what else she will deliver during the rest of the year.  Below, Jenna shares the latest Prefect news and introduces you to some of the key players in her team.

As Head Prefect, me and my prefect team have already achieved so much this academic year. Along with Head Girl, Zuzanna and Deputy Head of Sixth form, Mrs Timotheou, I have been able to devise a well-structured prefect duty rota, which organises prefect duties, making lunchtime run smoothly and safely. Some of the prefect duties consist of managing the new one-way system in order to help with Covid safety, monitoring H block corridors to make sure pupils stay in their designated year group zones and don’t congregate in large groups. Prefects also help within the Sixth Form Centre especially the cafe, enforcing social distancing and hand sanitisation.

Being one of the Leaders of the Covid Champions within school led me to tailor a lot of the prefect duties this year towards Covid safety. These unprecedented times can be hard for a lot of people to manage, so having prefects helps students and staff to be more reassured and allows pupils to feel more safe within the school environment.

Some future plans I have are charity events. I believe that it is a fundamental life skill to learn how you can help others who are less fortunate than you. Unfortunately charity events have been made slightly more complicated this year due to Covid, but I plan to incorporate fundraising in various ways which are Covid safe.

Here are a few words from my two Deputy Head Prefects:

Shivani Gajjar: As Deputy Head Prefect, I have assisted Jenna in Prefect meetings and in Student Parliament, discussing new ideas and improvements for the school. I look forward to assisting Jenna in the future with fundraising and charity organisations.

Vanshita Mishra: During my role as Deputy Head Prefect, I have overseen the prefect duties at lunch making sure all prefects are present and are performing their duties to the highest standards. I am excited for future plans such as charity work and more Student Parliament meetings.

While managing a team of over 60 prefects can seem to be a bit overwhelming at times I enjoy it greatly. I am truly honoured to have this opportunity and can’t wait to see what the next few terms of this academic year brings.

Jack Elson – Head boy
Jack is performing his lunchtime duty outside D block, monitoring students behaviour and making sure each year group stays in their designated zones.

Tegan is making sure students don’t congregate inside the corridors and enforcing the rule of masks being worn around the school site.

Sarah Mannering:
Sarah is monitoring the Sixth form Foyer and making sure any students return back from their lunch break are sanitizing their hands before entering the centre.

 

 

Aaron Doody:
Aaron is performing his duty in the sixth form cafe at lunch. He is making sure students in year 12 and 13 are socially distanced and not forming large crowds.
