Engaging Students with Fabulous Feedback

Last Friday morning History Teacher Mr Dowty shared his top tips for how to engage students in that ongoing powerful dialogue of marking and feedback. Using the various coloured assessment stickers provided at Bushey Meads, he plans a clear cycle of verbal, peer and self assessment around a key piece of work to take the students on a carefully crafted journey of improvement over time.

Clear advice and guidance related to published success criteria and the specific learning objectives supports the students in crafting accurate targets for improvement for use in subsequent DIRT (Dedicated Improvement and Reflection Time). Statistics show that in the course of 1 academic year students can improve their progress by as much as 3 months if marking and feedback provided, like Mr Dowty explained, steadily moves their work to the next level.

It was a great way to end our first week back to school in 2022 and another moment in time to share some of the best practice that exists across our learning community.
