Independence

One of the key messages of Assistant Headteacher Mr Mitman’s Main School Assembly this week on Independence was that independence is not ‘doing your own thing’ but but ‘doing the right thing on your own’.

He talked about how growing up results, quite rightly, in gaining greater independence but with that growing independence comes greater responsibility. Greater responsibility to
  • look after our environment
  • be a role model for younger students
  • behave well in the school and the wider community
  • take more initiative in learning at school and at home
  • consider carefully the impact of our actions
I was delighted with how well the Year 8 and 9 students listened to his wise words and want to wish all students well as they transition to the next important phase of their lives as they move through and beyond Bushey Meads School.
Year 9 students are just a few school weeks away from starting their GCSEs at Key Stage 4 and Year 8s will soon be in Year 9 and the real role models for the younger students in Key Stage 3.
Our Character Development Coaches (CDCs) reinforced the assemblies through the well planned Theme of the Week (ToTW) Activities and continue to support all students to develop that sense of independence and responsibility – one of our core values at BMS.
