Richard III is a historical play written in approximately 1592. It depicts the rise to power and short reign of Richard III of England. Set after the Civil War, Richard III is prepared to go to any lengths to achieve his goal. The play chronicles Richard’s dramatic rise and fall. Shakespeare portrays him as a hunchback who is the brother of the king.
In 2012, researchers and archaeologists found a skeleton under a car park in the city of Leicester. The use of DNA from Richard’s last living descendent proved that it was indeed the king himself. Not only that, it was finally confirmed that he did have a scoliosis that would have affected his appearance and mobility. Although this provides a fascinating conclusion to some of the mysteries surrounding the controversial king…we are still left wondering about his role in the fate of the princes in the tower.
