Celebrating 65 years of Eurovision in MFL...

On Friday 21st May, the MFL classrooms were bursting with excitement at the imminent return of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 on Saturday 22nd May. Even students who claimed that they didn’t really care for the glitzy and wacky costumes, colourful scenes, bright lights and music were drawn into the proceedings as they voted for each song and developed extended sentences to explain why they loved or hated the different entries.

Eurovision spreads a global message of unity, acceptance and diversity, which ties in perfectly with our community at Bushey Meads School. We really hope that this type of cultural lesson will encourage more students to continue with their language learning and develop as much love, passion and respect for learning other languages as we have in the MFL department.

In last Friday’s French lesson we looked at the Eurovision Song Contest. Miss showed us some extracts to translate into English about the competition and where it originated. Then we watched some of the entries from 6 different countries: The United Kingdom, France, Iceland, Malta, Spain and Russia. As we watched them we gave them a score out of 10 on how much we enjoyed them and wrote why. I really enjoyed this lesson, because it made me realise how much music can connect everyone and it got me more excited to watch the programme since I missed it last year.
