HEALTH WEEK

In the last week of this half term we will be holding our annual Health Week. During the week all the students in years 7-11 will complete a CV endurance fitness test and the results will be shared with parents. This is an excellent opportunity to identify the physical health of our students as we continue to encourage all to lead a healthy active lifestyle. There will also be a number of fixtures taking place to finish off what has been an incredibly busy term of sport. It was great this week to see both our netball and football teams in action with special mention to the Year 7 and Year 10 football teams who both won their respective District League Cup Finals on Wednesday of this week. The Health Week will finish with the Charity Fun Run on the Friday where we will be raising money for the British Heart Foundation. We will be asking all students to make a £2 donation towards this very worthwhile charity with students able to come to school in sportswear on the day.

FOOTBALL

PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Y10 Boys v St Joan of Arc (DISTRICT PREMIER LEAGUE FINAL) @ Queens Mr Symeou

Date: Wednesday 9th March 2022

Result: 3-3 Won on Penalties (5-4)

Scorers: D. Barbakadze (2), K. Larkin

Squad: C. Hughes, C. Sacikaran, A. Sacikaran, N. Mitchell, A. Clarke, D. Barbakadze, K. Larkin, L. Georgiou, C. Marriot, N. Bryan, F. Carpenter, B. Regan, H. Wafi.

Commended performances: K. Larkin, D. Barbakadze, C. Sacikaran, C. Hughes

Comment: A brilliant, competitive match to end the league season. St Joan of Arc took the lead early on with a good free kick. The boys picked themselves up quickly and played very well, equalising midway through the first half with a great goal from distance by our captain D. Barbakadze. Bushey Meads started the second half very well, extending the lead by a further two goals from K. Larkin and D. Barbakadze added his second. St Joan of Arc showed great resilience and character to get back into the game, scoring two late goals just before the final whistle. Extra time began and our boys applied constant pressure without being able to find the decisive goal. Eventually, the match was decided on penalties as C. Hughes made a brilliant save before B. Regan calmly took his chance from the penalty spot. Credit to both teams for putting on such a close and thrilling match of football.

Y9 Boys v Rickmansworth (DISTRICT DIVISION 1 FINAL) @ Queens Mr Burnell

Date: Wednesday 9th March 2022

Result: Lost 0-1

Squad: C. Tegzes, A. Gates, O. Spencer, I. Harry-Brown, N. Morka, D. Ansa-Otu, A. Fish, M. McManus, H. Cooper, K. Ford, G. Eldridge, S. Millberry, K. Tinriover.

Commended performances: A. Gates, K. Tinriover

Comment: Wednesday saw the year 9 team play their final game of the year in the league final against a strong Rickmansworth team. Rickmansworth started the stronger of the two teams as they controlled the game in the midfield which led to them creating some good chances to score and if it wasn’t for some very good defending they would have done. The team unfortunately did let a goal in mid-way through the first half. The longer the half went on the more the team grew into the game. The second half the team started really quickly, almost scoring from the kick-off. They dominated the second half where they created some excellent chances to score and level the game. However, it was not meant to be and the game finished 0-1. It has been an outstanding effort from all involved throughout the year as they won the league and reached the quarter finals of the county cup.

DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONS

Y7 Boys v Grange Academy (DISTRICT DIVISION 1 FINAL) @ Queens Mr Harris

Date: Wednesday 9th March 2022

Result: Won 3 – 2

Scorers: S. Ardeleanu, F. Fowler, H. Neal.

Squad: J. Hiett (GK), Z. Zeb, R. Cooper, B. Neulaender, S. Ardeleanu, L. Dimon, L. Avci, H. McManus, H. Neal, N. Walters, J. Cunningham, F. Fowler.

Commended performances: Everyone!

Comment: Wednesday afternoon saw the Year 7s take part in their final football match of the year, the District League Final. Soon after the kick off, The Grange Academy took the front foot and went on the offensive immediately. They had a strong player in midfield who was calling the shots early on carrying the ball and creating chances. We managed to hold strong through the early stages of the game and hold them off for a while. Soon after the pressure started to ease, we regained a foothold in the game by creating some of our own chances. Then, we managed to get our first goal of the game through a looping cross into the box which S. Ardeleanu climbed highest and won the header which was well saved by the goalkeeper but S. Ardeleanu followed it up and poked it home to give BMS the lead. Following this, we allowed The Grange Academy player to dance through our defence and run down the by-line and cut the ball back for a simple shot for their striker, 1 – 1. After that, we managed to hit the Grange on the counter attack, the ball bought inside excellently by S. Ardeleanu who played an exquisite pass cutting between two defenders right into the path of H. Neal, who bought the ball under his control and he calmly slotted home our second of the day.

Half time came around and we were winning 2 – 1. In the second half, we made some changes with some fresh faces being bought onto the pitch, almost making an instant impact, F. Fowler causing havoc by chasing after loose balls around the pitch. For most of the second half, the game resided in the middle of the pitch for the most part. A fierce competition with BMS holding on whilst The Grange mounting attacks. With around 10 minutes to go in the second half we won a freekick on the edge of the box which F. Fowler hit on target and with power towards the goalkeeper who was unable to keep it out in the end. We took a 3 – 1 lead in the game with not long left to go. Almost immediately from the kick off The Grange played a through ball that split our defence and allowed their striker to run on and score another for the game closing the gap. After the final 5 nervy minutes, we managed to secure the win and see out the result in the game. Thanks to the dominating presence of J. Hiett in goal and with Z. Zeb, R. Cooper, & B. Neulaender in defence we managed to hold The Grange at bay stopping them getting the equalising goal.

Well done to all from BMS who were strong throughout the whole season and also those from The Grange Academy who were excellent as well. A fierce battle throughout and an overall enjoyable afternoon of football.

RUGBY

Y8 Boys v DISTRICT DEVELOPMENT RUGBY FESTIVAL (@ Watford RFC) Mr Cartledge

Date: Tuesday 8th March

Results: 1 x Win, 1 x Draw, 4 x Loss (v Grange A, St Michaels, St Joan of Arc, Rickmansworth, Croxley Danes, Reach Free)

Squad: S Patel, J Gladdy, G Guainiere, K Macfarlane-Gentles, E Ansu Otu, A Worth, O Alao, N Guernouti, M Tregear

Commended performances: Whole squad!

Comment: It was fantastic to see the first Development Rugby Festival take place after the covid pandemic with Watford RFC excellent hosts for the 7-team friendly competition. The ethos was very much about developing students’ understanding of competitive game play in a friendly learning environment with all schools contributing to a very successful event. The Year 8 Boys had the smallest squad of only 9 players which meant all the boys had to play every minute of every game. Despite this the boys showed a fantastic attitude throughout working really hard as a team and really pushing themselves to improve even when exhausted in the later games. With some of the stronger rugby schools also entering it was always going to be a tough event but a win against Grange Academy and a draw with St Joan of Arc as well as 4 very narrow defeats in which the boys only lost by one try were a reward for their hard work. The defensive tackling was outstanding at times and the boys have real potential to really develop in the sport. The challenge now is to find 4 or 5 other boys in the year to join the team.

Comment: What a great set of performances from the Year 8 netball team in their district tournament on Monday night.  In bitterly cold conditions the girls worked really hard to secure an impressive set of results. With overall winners Immanuel dominating against all teams the BMS team demonstrated some great team work in all of their matches. The shooting trio of S. Doran, V. Hill and L. Cloote showed off some great technique to convert chances made for them by the fine passing of the centre court players, E. Bird, L. Winslett and L. Qarib.  In defence M. Bazile and Z. O’Brart worked tirelessly to turn the ball over and regain possession.  Playing with enthusiasm and passion the girls were encouraged by a small band of supporters which helped them raise their game and pull off a great sequence of results.  Well played to all of the girls involved, and thanks to the supporters!

Y8 Girls v Parmiters (Friendly) (away) Mrs Cartledge

Date: Wednesday 9th March

Result: Won 13-2

Squad: V. Hill, L. Cloote, S. Doran, E. Bird, L. Winslett, L. Qarib, M. Bazile, Z. O’Brart, I Wijerathna,

Commended performances: M Bazille and L Winslett.

Comment: The girls took control of the game from the first quarter. It was an impressive performance by all girls with excellent defending in all thirds of the court. The shooting was strong with some impressive rebounds. The centre court players worked hard to bring the ball down the court and all players demonstrated accurate passing and movement to create space. This was the last game of the season for the year 8 team. They remain a reliable, committed and talented team. It has been a pleasure to see the improvements made by all players over the season and this has been down to their hard work. Well done.

Y10 Girls v Parmiters (LEAGUE) (away) Mrs Cooper

Date: Wednesday 9th March

Result: Won 13-12

Squad: A. Deutrom, S. Hindocha, L. Slight, H. Imansoura, K. Kovarova, R. Wheeler, A. Ashar

Commended performances: K. Kovarova voted by the opposition

Comment: WOW! What an exciting game After conceding the first 5 goal the BMS teams were facing an uphill battle.  However, a turnover ball in the centre court from K. Kovarova was fed down to R. Wheeler and A. Ashar converted the shot to begin the fight back.  The end of the first quarter saw BMS 5-2 down.  After a defensive reshuffle, with great interceptions from A. Deutrom and S. Hindocha, the BMS squad pulled the score back to within 1 before going on to dominate the third quarter.  Great work in the mid court from L. Slight, H. Imansoura and K. Kovarova ensured possession was equal and goals were scored end to end.  The slender lead from the third quarter was reduced to 1 and the BMS team held on for victory.  A great result – well done ladies
