NEWS

It has been a very busy start to the year with some really impressive turnouts for the football and netball clubs in particular. A reminder that all our clubs are inclusive and we want to encourage as many students as possible to do as much physical activity as possible. A reminder that badminton and table tennis clubs are currently running on Tuesday, wednesday and thursday and it would be great to see more students take advantage of these club – full details can be found on the extra-curricular timetable found on the website and desktop.

DISTRICT FOOTBALL

It has been great to see a number of our students selected to play for the Watford District Schools football teams. Following trials at the end of last term and early this term M Machen and S Booth (Year 10), R Ismail (Year 9) and D Barbakadze and L Georgiou (Year 8) have all been selected for the squads and all have already played. We look forward to following their progress further.

SPORTS REPORTS

FOOTBALL

Year 10A v Queens (District League)  AWAY  Mr Cartledge

Date : Friday 13th September 2019

Result : Lost

Scorers : F Pierson

Squad : S Booth, N Amoako, E Anthony, M Chaudhury, C Lynch, M Keough, F Pierson, B Kabucho, A Kothary, T Bates, T Barnes, H Khan, D Cross

Commended performances : F Pierson, B Kabucho

Comment : The Y10 boys suffered a heavy defeat in their first game in the District Premier League season when they came up against last year’s winners Queens. Despite a battling effort some defensive mistakes and a failure to keep the ball under pressure saw the boys comfortably beaten. Special mention to Frankie P and Bo K who showed good quality on the ball and constantly looked to to drive the team forward.

Year 9A v Queens (District League) HOME  Mr Symeou / Mr Burnell

Date : 13/09/2019

Result :  6-3 loss

Scorers : R.Ismaili (3)

Squad : L.Thorneycroft, A.Ali, A.Bengherifa, Z. Charrouf, G.Gonzalez-Aller, R.Ismaili, A. Shamas, D. Richards, B.Narroway, I.Dahmani, C.Martin, F.Spencer, N.Haines.

Commended performances : R.Ismaili

Comment: A very difficult game for our boys against a strong Queens team. The visitors opened the scoring with a long distance strike before adding 4 more before half time, capitalising on some incisive counter attacking play. Our players showed an excellent attitude in the second half, trying everything to get themselves back into the game. We were able to pull another 2 goals back in a second half that was dominated by Bushey Meads. There was some real positives in terms of attacking play in that second half and the boys should be proud of their efforts to get back into a game that looked  to be all over at half time. R.Ismaili was the stand-out performer scoring a hat-trick in his first goal of the season.

Year 8A v Queens (Friendly) HOME  Mr Piper

Date : 13/09/2019

Result : 2-1 Win

Scorers : D.Barbakadze

Squad : S.Sharma (GK), K. SM (GK), C. Marriott, L. Georgiou, A. Clark ©, L. Da Costa, K. Larkin, D. Barbakadze, F.Carpenter, H. Wafi, J. Wheeler, N. Mitchell.

Commended performances : D.Barbakadze, Jayden W & Kyle L

Comment : This was a very competitive game which saw us face a queens side who were County Cup finalists last year! They were a very well organised team who always tried to use the ball well when in possession. We were well organised defensively and made the most of the ball on the counter-attacks, utilising the pace of D.Barbakadze on two occasions to help us record our second victory of the season. Well done to all of the boys involved and to a Queens side who made the game a tightly contested one.

Year 7A v Queens (Friendly) AWAY  Mr Burnell

Date : Friday 13th September 2019

Result : Lost 5-1

Scorers : G. Eldridge

Squad : N. Morka, K. Tinriover, F. Doherty, C. Tegzes, A. Gates, S. Omar, G. Eldridge, J. Wright, S. Johnson, O. Spencer, I. Harry Brown, D. Ansa-out, K. Gurney, J. Bhatti, A. Fish.

Commended performances : G. Eldridge, N. Morka, S. Omar, I. Harry Brown, K. Tinriover, A. Gates, J. Wright .

Comment : Friday saw the year 7A team play their first ever representative game for Bushey Meads School away to Queens. The first half was a very even contest as the team created numerous chances to take the lead and would have done if it wasn’t for some excellent goalkeeping. The deadlock was broken halfway through the first half as Queens took the lead. However the team responded well creating some more excellent chances to bring the game level. A quick goal just after halftime saw queens double their lead. Shortly after that they then scored again to make it 3-0. The team again showed some excellent character to come back and score their first goal through G. Eldridge. Unfortunately two more goals a minute from time sealed the game for the home side. The scoreline was certainly not reflective on the performance from the team. There are lots of positives to take away from the game and put into practice in training. Well done all.

Year 8A v Reach Free (District League) HOME  Mr Piper

Date : Mon 16th September 2019

Result : 9-2 Win

Scorers : D.Barbakadze (3), L.Georgiou, J.Sims (2), J.Wheeler, C.Marriott (2)

Squad : S.Sharma (GK), K. SM (GK), C. Marriott, L. Georgiou, A. Clark ©, L. Da Costa, K. Larkin, D. Barbakadze, F.Carpenter, H. Wafi, J. Wheeler, N. Mitchell, J.Sims.

Commended performances : K.Larkin

Comment : This game against Reach Free saw us extend our 100% win record since the start of this academic year. We played a Reach Free team who always tried to play effective football, particularly in wide areas. Once again, our organisation and ruthlessness in front of goal meant that we were able to obtain our third win of the season. The boys are now looking ahead to the first round of the county cup, where we meet Beaumont School- a strong team.

Year 11A v St Joan of Arc (District League) AWAY Mr O’Kelly

Date : Tues 17th September 2019

Result : Lost 3-0

Squad : Jesse Harry-Brown, Archie Sykes, Harris Plant, Ben Castello, Josh Billings, Luke Andrews, George Rowe, Jay Marsh, Zak Khan, Jake Norris-Ataie, Jalen Sotomey, Leo Enright

Commended performances : Josh Billings

Comment : A new seasons started with the team that joined the league for the first time. A very strong opposition who scored two early goals, left BMS chasing the game. A much improved second half with chances for both teams, but ultimately it was St Joan of Arc who came away as victors.

Year 8A v Beaumont (County Cup) HOME  Mr Piper

Date : Tues 24th September 2019

Result : 6-5 Loss

Scorers : D.Barbakadze (4), Charlie M

Squad : S.Sharma (GK), K. SM (GK), C. Marriott, L. Georgiou, A. Clark ©, L. Da Costa, K. Larkin, D. Barbakadze, F.Carpenter, H. Wafi, J. Wheeler, N. Mitchell, J.Sims.

Commended performances : Entire team.

Comment : This first round fixture of the county cup was an extremely entertaining game. We met Beaumont School who were well organsied and played very nice football all over the field of play. We took the lead early on in the game but there was a swift reply from Beaumont. This set the tone for the rest of the game which finished 4-4 after 90mins. Extra-time then followed which again saw us take the lead early-on in the first half. Beaumont then equalised at the start of the second period and clinched the win with a last minute goal. Both teams represented their schools exceptionally well and we wish Beaumont the best of luck in the next round.

Year 9A v St Joan of Arc (District League) HOME  Mr Symeou

Date : Tues 24th September 2019

Result : 6-0 loss

Scorers : n/a

Squad :K . Ford, D.Tegzes, A. Bengherifa, Z. Charrouf, G.Gonzalez-Aller, D. Richards, B.Narroway, I. Dahmani, C.Martin, A.O’Shea.

Commended performances : G.Gonzalez-Aller

Comment :A tough game against a very good passing team. St Joan of Arc scored early goals & made it a real uphill task to get back into the game. Our boys worked hard and tried their best but were not able to convert their chances into goals.

Year 9b v Westfield (District League) HOME  Mr Mitchell

Date : Weds 24th September 2019

Result : 11-0 loss

Squad : K. Dawood, B. Winslett, J.Brown, L. Wimalasena, J. Patel, G. Baldry, D. Colakovic, Q. Kazmi, T. Hurst, K. Sivarajah, F. Spencer, R. Uyathakumar, L.Hill.

Commended performances : F. Spencer , K. Sivarajah.

Comment : A tough game for the boys, Westfield scored early goals in quick succession. This took our team by surprise. Our boys took too long to pick themselves up but were much more positive in the second half. As the game went on we got better but were unable to take our chances.

Year 7A v Westfield (District League) AWAY  Mr Burnell

Date : Tues 24th September 2019

Result : Won 3-1

Scorers : G. Eldridge.

Squad :  H Harris-Scott, K. Tinriover, F. Doherty, C. Tegzes, A. Gates, S. Omar, G. Eldridge, J. Wright, S. Johnson, O. Spencer, I. Harry Brown, A. Fish.

Commended performances :  K. Tinriover, C. Tegzes, A. Gates, G. Eldridge, J. Wright, I. Harry Brown.

Comment : Tuesday was the year 7’s first taste of league football within the very competitive district as they traveled to Westfield. Looking to build on their previous fixture the team started well creating some excellent chances to score the first goal. Their pressure soon paid off as some excellent play in midfield led to a free kick, which was excellently scored by G. Eldridge. Just before halftime the score was doubled as G. Eldridge was played through and passed the ball underneath the keeper. The second half started well again with some nice passing moves from both teams. Half-way through the second half G. Eldridge managed to complete a well deserved hat-trick, once again scoring from a through ball. Westfield scored a consolation goal towards the end of the game to bring the score back to 3-1 and that was how the game finished. Another positive performance by the year 7A team to build on for their next fixture.

NETBALL

Year 8A v Queens (District League) AWAY  Mrs Cooper

Date : Mon 23rd September 2019

Result : 17-14 Win

Squad : A.Ashar, E.Cloote, R.Wheeler, K.Kovarova, Kr.Chanderana, Ka.Chenderana, R.Richards, O.Hansen

Player of the match : R.Wheeler (voted by Queens players)

Comment : In the first match of the season the year 8 team took on local rivals Queens.  Having won their league last season the girls stepped up to play in Division 1 missing a couple of players through injury and illness. However the depth of squad showed as the girls all performed really well and deserved their victory. Some fine passing in the mid and attacking court from K.Kovorova and R.Wheeler ensured BMS took an early lead and never gave it up.  A great start to the season. Well played ladies.

Year 8A v WGGS (District League) AWAY  Mrs Cooper

Date : Weds 25th September 2019

Result : Lost 4-8

Squad : A.Ashar, E.Cloote, R.Wheeler, K.Kovarova, Kr.Chanderana, Ka.Chenderana, R.Richards, O.Hansen, H.Imansoura

Player of the match : R.Wheeler selected by WGGS team.

Comment : This was a tough match for the year 8 squad and it was played at a frenetic pace. With the defences from both teams working really hard to minimise the scoring opportunities there was a lot of play through the mid court and the BMS team were grateful of having a full squad to call upon.  WGGS took an early lead and despite a third quarter fight back from the BMS team they could not overhaul their opponents.  Working on creating space and feeding the circle is the focus for training on Monday!

Senior v WGGS (Friendly) AWAY  Mrs Cartledge

Date : Weds 25th September 2019

Result : Lost 40-13

Squad : L Roberts, M Hayes, J Benveniste, S Narroway, E Rowe, C Wright, A Hutchison, B Parker, V Pratt

Player of the match : A Hutchinson for excellent interceptions down court and good stamina during the game.

Comment : This was a tough game for our combined Year 11 and sixth form. The opposition played at a speedy pace and they were able to shoot consistently throughout the game. The girls play improved as the game progressed and their were a number of impressive interceptions form the mid court players. All players never gave up and showed determination to the end of the game.

Year 9 v Croxley Danes (District League) Home  Mrs Wright

Date : Weds 25th September 2019

Result : Won 21 – 9

Squad : S. Lea (captain), M. Sanchez, E. Clarke, A. Choudhury, E. Doody, A. Deutrom, A. Fish, M. Eldridge, L. Jackman, H Nabi, A. Wolsetnholme, C. Wright-Hobson

Player of the match : H Nabi for superb accuracy and consistency when shooting.  Well done!

Comment : What a great start to the season!  Our new and expanded squad were strong from the start, putting pressure immediately on the Croxley Dane defenders.  The movement in and around the attacking circle was relentless and highly effective.  When Croxley Dane’s did get an opportunity to shoot they were unable to gain possession of the rebounds to have another attempt due to our strong defence.  Our mid court players facilitated both sides of the court with precision and flow.  Looking forward to our game next week against the Reach Free on Monday.  Congratulations to all the players with a special mention to H. Nabi for playing out of her skin!  Well done!
