Dance trip to see ‘Xenos’ by Akram Khan

Last week, we took 15 students to see Akram Khan’s solo performance of ‘Xenos’ at Sadlers wells. Shifting between kathak and contemporary dance, Khan conjures the shell-shocked dream of a colonial soldier in the First World War. Meaning ‘stranger’ or ‘foreigner’, XENOS takes place on the border between East and West, past and present, mythology and technology, where humanity stands in wonder and disarray.

For many of our GCSE and A level students, this was the first time they had witnessed a solo dancer with 4 live musicians and a constant changing set. It was also fantastic to finally see a live performance after so long! The dance department is looking forward to our next trip to Sadlers wells to watch Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures Company perform ‘Nutcracker.’
