Year 9 Textiles – Ready for the summer!

Over the course of the autumn term, my Year 9 textiles students have been working hard towards their ‘Festival’ themed project. Students selected a festival that they wanted their shorts to be inspired by and researched this in depth, putting together a moodboard, looking at shorts that are currently being sold and then began putting their own ideas down on paper! We have had some outstanding work this term, take a look at some of their designs below by Grace Appleby, Amani Wahabdeen, Laura Wolstenholme, Gabriela Zhelyazkova.

The students experimented with different techniques, before deciding how exactly their shorts would be made. They learnt a variety of skills using the sewing machines, as well as other equipment, to help them construct their garments. These are some finished garments by Laila Day, Bonnie Lyall, Crystal May and Carmen Gonzalez-Aller.

Some students got on so well, that they even managed to make a drawstring bag to present their shorts in! I am extremely proud of the student’s and their hard work has led to some fantastic results! A very big well done Year 9! I look forward to seeing more fantastic outcomes next year!
