PE and Health Faculty News
(20th September)
NEWS
Mr Cartledge Head of PE and Health
The start of a new term sees the start of a new programme of sport and physical activity practices, clubs and competitive fixtures. Last year many of our students took the opportunity to build on their performance in lessons by attending the many extra-curricular clubs that are available at lunchtime and after school. This year we will be holding clubs in football, basketball, rugby, table tennis, badminton, gymnastics, trampolining, cricket, rounders, tennis, fitness, SEN sport and athletics. The clubs are all run by the PE and Health Faculty staff and take place at lunchtime and after school. In addition we are looking forward to an extensive range of friendly, District and County competitive sports fixtures which will be starting in September. All clubs are free of charge and open to all students.
For full details of the clubs, fixtures and practices students and parents need to check on the Bushey Meads School website in the Calendar icon where you will find a full list of the extra-curricular activities. This is updated on a weekly basis to show the fixtures and practices for each week. In addition students can check the notice boards in the boys and girls changing rooms and in the main PE lobby. Extra-curricular clubs and fixtures will also be regularly shared with students via the google classroom..
All students who attend after school sports clubs will receive an R1 Reward point every time they attend. Students selected for school teams will receive an R2 for every time they participate in a fixture
Students selected for teams will receive team sheets with start and finish times. Some clubs may change week by week depending on fixtures and meetings but parents should check the twitter account and the website for updates. :

FOOTBALL
This week saw the revised EAST v WEST Watford District trials take place with boys from all over the area trialling to make the local representative teams. We are proud to report that 5 of our students were successful in making the District EAST squad and we wish them the best of luck with the forthcoming matches.
Under 15 : Enoch Ansa-Otu, George Guainiere
Under 14 : Joseph Hiett, Kieran Gibson
Under 13 : Ryan Hodgson
The turnouts for the first Bushey Meads football practices of the year have been absolutely fantastic. Over the last week nearly 160 boys from years 7-13 have taken part in practices and trial matches. Football clubs will continue throughout this term and it would be great to see these numbers continuing over the next few months.

Comment : Thursday saw the year 8 football team play their first game of the season against a strong St Joan of Arc side in the County Cup. The boys dominated for most of the first half as they found themselves 3-0 up before half time. However the opposition did not give in and scored two quick goals before the break to make it 3-2 at half time. The second half started in the same fashion as the first as the boys again dominated position. St Joan of Arc grew into the game more as pulled another goal back straight after we scored to extend our lead. The team then started to take a number of chances that they were creating and ended up comfortable winners on the day.

Comment : The Year 7 boys team made an excellent start to competitive school football with a convincing 6-0 win over Futures Academy. The boys dominated possession throughout the game and at times played some very good passing football. An outstanding individual performance from N Gibson saw him score an excellent hat-trick. Well done to all the boys on a great team performance.

Comment : The Year 10 team put in another excellent performance of possession passing football in a comfortable 4-0 victory over Parmiters. The boys dominated the game and were rewarded with a fine hat trick from R Christou Totesaut. The boys sit top of the league after winning the first 2 games of the season.
Year 9 Boys v Croxley Danes (District League) HOME Mr Harris

Result: Won 8 – 2
Scorers: H. Neal, F. Fowler, K. Gibson, S. Ardeleanu, H. Wills, H. McManus

Commended performances: K. Gibson.
Comment: On a blustery Tuesday afternoon, we faced Croxley Danes in their first league game of the year. The game started as a cagey affair and once we scored our first through a mistake at the back H. Neal slotted the ball home. Following this we started moving the ball better and created a few more chances and scored a few more goals. We managed to take a 3 – 0 lead into the break at half time. Into the second half, we continued our dominance on the game and continued to score some more goals, taking the game to 6 – 0. After this, we switched off and let them back into the game and they strung some nice passes together through our defence and scored two good goals. We then went on to score again taking the final score to 8 – 2. A dominant display in the end but far from the finished product. Another game Friday and a tough fixture awaits.
Year 8 Boys v Rickmansworth (District League) HOME Mr Burnell
Date : Tuesday 19th September 2023
Result : 3-3
Scorers : B. Spencer, K. Walker, H. Trueman.
Squad : J. Lewis, L. Khan, A. Chaudhry, H. Trueman, R. Doran, B. Spencer, R. Hodgson, F. Hoy, K. Walker, K. Johnson, F. Francos, R. Payne, S. Johnson, J. Evans, F. Gee.
Commended performances : K. Johnson, R. Doran, K. Walker
Comment : Tuesday saw the year 8 team play their first league game against a strong Rickmansworth team. The game started very evenly as both teams created good chances to score. The team took the lead through an excellent cross to the back post which was well finished. However, towards the end of the first half the boys sat back, which led to Rickmansworth scoring two quick goals before halftime. The second half saw us play some excellent football and we levelled the match soon after the break. We continued in the same way we started the second half and created some excellent chances to score but were unable to put the ball in the net. Rickmansworth then broke away and scored to make it 2-3 with 10 minutes to go. Only a couple of minutes after we went a goal down we again levelled the scoring. Both teams created chances at the end of the game to win it but neither could find that final winning goal. An excellent game of football.
