FOOTBALL
Year 9A Boys v Futures Academy (District Division 1 League Final) @ Parmiters School Mr Cartledge
Date : Thursday 2nd March 2023
Result : Lost 3-2
Scorers : J Gladdy, G Guainiere (pen)
Squad: J Gladdy, Z Watson, D Mahmud, E Ansa-Otu, L Fearnside, J Allan, G Guainiere, A Worth, S Mowle, M Wong, R Totesaut-Christou, Z Bertie, K Fung
Commended performances : J Gladdy, G Guainiere
Comment : The year 9 boys put in a really committed and hardworking performance and were very unlucky to lose a very closely contested District League final. A bright start saw the boys take an early lead through a J Gladdy free-kick. The boys then controlled large parts of the first half with some good passing football but two goals from Futures with their only chances of the 1st half saw the BMS team trailing at half time. The boys started the second half brightly and were rewarded with a foul on R Totesaut-Christou leading to a penalty which was dispatched by G Guainiere. Futures took control of the game then and put the BMS team under heavy pressure with Z Watson making several good saves to keep them out. With just 3 minutes left and injury time looming Futures scored the winning goal to leave the BMS team disappointed. The boys should be really proud of their efforts after an excellent league season.
Year 10A Boys v Westfield (District Division 1 League Final) @ Parmiters School Mr Burnell
Date : Wednesday 8th March 2023
Result : Lost 2-1 AET
Scorers : K. Tinriover.
Squad: K. Tinriover, C. Tegzes ,A. Gates, G. Eldridge, O. Spencer, I. Harry Brown, J. Harris, D. Ansu Otu,G. Gurney, F.Cross, K. Ford, S. Millberry, A. Bracewell.
Commended performances : K. Tinriover, A. Gates, G. Eldridge, S. Millberry.
Comment : Wednesday saw the year 10 team play their league final against a good Westfield team. The game started well for the team as they dominated the ball but were unable to create any chances to score. Midway through the first half the team took the lead through a very well worked team goal. In the second half the tables turned and Westfield dominated possession. Midway through the second half Westfield were awarded a penalty as the ball struck one of our team members’ hands from a free kick. The resulting penalty was scored, which levelled the score. The last five minutes of the half we had a good opportunity to score but a good save prevented the ball from hitting the back of the net. It was 1-1 at full time and the game headed into extra-time. The team dominated the first half of extra-time and were unlucky not to score. However, similar to the second half of normal time, Westfield dominated and managed to find a way to score with nearly the last kick of the game. Overall another excellent season which saw the year 10 team unbeaten in the league until the final as well as progressing in the county cup.
GIRLS FOOTBALL
Junior Girls v Westfield (League) Away Mr O’Kelly
Date : Monday 6th March 2023
Result : Lost 4-3
Squad: J Frumselu, M Sharp, A Chance, A Baliguat, J Fearnside, R Gagiskyte
Commended performances : Whole team!
Comment : A tough game where the team worked so hard to compete with an opposition that outnumbered them. The work ethic and effort was fantastic and the girls should be incredibly proud of the play they managed. Conceding very late into added time at the end of the game led to the girls feeling disappointed and rightly so, but taking this effort and dedication into the next game will surely lead to a better result.
RUGBY
Year 9 Boys RUGBY DEVELOPMENT TOURNAMENT Mr Cartledge
Date : Tuesday 7th March 2023
Result : Won 1 Lost 3 v St Joan of Arc, Reach Free, St Michaels, Grange Academy
Squad: S Patel, K Macfarlane-Gentles, A Worth, J Gladdy, M Tregear, O Alao, W Towill, E Ansa Otu, N Guernouti, D Mahmud, S Mowle
Comment : On Tuesday the Year 9 boys took part in another Development rugby festival which included some strong schools including St Michaels and St Joan of Arc. The boys again showed some excellent defensive work with all boys showing improved tackling technique and confidence in contact situations. J Gladdy was especially strong with his tackling. With the ball the team has started to move the ball better in the back line with special mention to E Ansa Otu who showed strong running to score several tries. Well done to all the boys who really enjoyed the experience and despite suffering 3 narrow defeats showing great commitment and resilience.
BASKETBALL
Senior Boys v Rickmansworth (District League) HOME Mr O’Kelly
Date : Wednesday 8th March 2023
Result : Won 26 – 17
Squad : M Keough, T Bates, D Sherlock, O Appa, N Haines, A Kothari, A O’Shea, J Johnson, T Qarib, D Tegzas
Commended performances : T Bates
Comment: A performance that lacked flair, but was too strong for the opposition. Defensively the team worked very well and prevented the opposition from scoring with any regularity, but a slow attacking movement meant that the team was not firing, let’s hope this is improved for the next game.
NETBALL
Year 8 Girls District Tournament AWAY Mrs Cooper
Date : Monday 6th March 2023
Results : 4th Place – Won 2, D 1, L3
Squad : N Edirisuriya, R Chudasma, M.Rumney, E Mullings, A Belghiru, K Shah, V Melero
Commended performances : Everyone!
Comment: The year 8 girls had a really positive end to their season at what was a chilly district tournament. With teams from the district leagues entered it was always going to be challenging, however the team spirit and positivity within the team was the ‘additional player’ they needed. Although suffering narrow defeats in their opening games the girls worked together encouraging each other and this really showed in their performances in their next games. Some accurate passing in the mid court coupled with dynamic defending and accurate shooting meant two comprehensive victories and a draw, before another narrow defeat to WGGS in the final game. The highlight of the night was the drawn game with Croxley Danes who beat them in the league last week and where they showed really good progress. It was a pleasure to take the girls and they should be proud of their efforts.
