On Tuesday 27 January the A Level RS students were taken on a trip to St Pauls Cathedral in London.
One student reflected saying: The trip to St Paul’s Cathedral was an amazing experience for us RS A-Level students, as it brought the subject to life beyond the classroom. It provided an excellent opportunity to deepen our understanding of Christian beliefs, worship, and religious practice. We were able to expand our knowledge of the Eucharist by taking part in a real life service and observing how this aspect and topic of the subject connects to everyday religious practice. The visits also encouraged reflection and discussion afterwards, allowing students to share their experiences and discuss what they had learned. Overall, the trip was both inspiring and educational, strengthening students’ knowledge and engagement in Religious Studies.

It was a really special experience to be able to take part in the service and to witness the eucharist at St. Paul’s Cathedral. After studying the process of the eucharist, and its significance for religious believers, it was really interesting to witness the service in action – and to be part of such a special ceremony.
To see the specific workings of an Anglican church was particularly interesting after having studied a wide variety of denominations, and understanding the differences in beliefs and practises surrounding the eucharist. Also, to hear stories from the Bible being read so passionately, and given such meaning was deeply interesting – allowing me to understand the impact of stories that often feel so detached.
Additionally, to see the workings of the church, and the hierarchy of the clergy was fascinating. Seeing these structures and traditions in person is far more striking than reading about them in a textbook, and I think this experience will help me with understanding the authority of the church
