Recognising the Impact of Marking and...
On Monday morning in our Staff Briefing it was great to hear from Senior Lead Practitioner Mrs Hoskins and Advanced Lead Teacher Mr Harris and receive some feedback in our Monday Magic Moment  from our recent Marking and Feedback Fortnight held in school earlier this term. The termly fortnights provide an opportunity for staff to visit each other’s classrooms to spot best practice in terms of marking and feedback taking place.
Research shows that where marking takes place and concise feedback is given and then responded to by the students, increased progress over the course of a year can be made by as much as an additional three months.
As parents and carers do continue to look at your children’s work and check that they are responding to all the feedback stickers we employ (white for teacher feedback, blue for self assessment, green for peer assessment and orange for verbal feedback). On each sticker there is often a clear target or next step provided which the students should be responding to in purple pen. Purple pens are also used to self mark after a mini test.
Do also make sure your child’s pencil case is fully loaded with pens, pencils, rulers, a protractor and calculator, coloured pencils and a purple pen of progress. This will also help them make great progress in lessons and be able to engage fully with all the learning activities set.
The Monday Magic Moment was also a chance to share some great best practice from several top performing departments across the school.
