HERTSMERE BADMINTON TOURNAMENT

DATE : Tues 15th October 2019

The changes in the assessment standards of the practical aspects of the GCSE PE course have had a significant impact on the recent outcomes in the qualification. With the standards required to achieve the higher grades very high the Faculty is always looking for opportunities for our students to observe and compete against higher level performers. The recent Hertsmere Badminton Tournament was an excellent example of this with 8 of our Year 10 and 11 GCSE PE students and a team of 4 Year 9 students competing against the badminton squads of Watford Boys and Haberdashers Boys Schools. In some cases the quality of the opposition was outstanding and it was a real eye opener to witness elite level performance at such close hand. The boys showed great spirit and although not winning any matches overall the boys level of performance certainly improved over the course of the evening. It certainly showed the boys the level of practice and competence required to achieve at the higher grades and it gives them something to aspire to in the future. The Thursday night badminton club at school is for Year 10 and 11 qualification students only and it would be great to see even more students in attendance.

SPORTS REPORTS

FOOTBALL

Under 18 v FC Academy  (District League)  AWAY  Mr Cartledge

Date : Wednesday 16th October 2019

Result : Lost 5-1

Scorers : C Cameron

Squad : C Cameron, J James, A Hayes, C Atkinson, T Alade, L Fletcher-Gray, P Sangasinha, A Sykes, J Simmons,C Boahsin Mensah, F Horastead, B Castello, J Bromfield

Commended performances :

Comment : It was a really disappointing result for the U18 boys despite having a lot of possession the team made too many defensive errors and failed to take the many chances that were created.

Year 10 v St Michaels  (County Cup / District League) AWAY  Mr Cartledge

Date : Monday 14th October 2019

Result : Lost 5-2

Scorers : F Pierson, B Kabucho

Squad : S Booth, N Amoako, E Anthony, M Chaudhury, C Lynch, M Keough, F Pierson, B Kabucho, A Kothary, T Bates, T Barnes, H Khan, S Sabapathy, M Machen

Commended performances :   Whole team !

Comment : The Year 10 boys produced their best performance of the season and were unlucky to lose in a game of lots of good attacking football. The boys played particularly well in the first half passing the ball with confidence all over the pitch and were very unlucky to go into the break 3-2 down. Two late goals certainly flattered the hosts but the boys can be proud of their effort and performance level.

NETBALL

Year 8 v RMS (League) AWAY  Mrs Cooper

Date : Tuesday 15th October 2019

Result : Lost 17-5

Squad :O.Hansen, R.Richards, K.Kovorova, H.Imansoura, R.Wheeler, E.Cloote, A.Asher

Commended performances : R.Richards player of match voted for by opposition, H.Imansoura and K.Kovorova for some fantastic attacking play.

Comment : Another tough match for the year 8 team but a game in which they played some really good attacking play and put into practice improvements they had worked on in the areas of weakness from the previous game.  Much better use of the whole court, defending all of the court and more composure on the ball meant a much improved all round performance.

Well played ladies.

NETBALL

Year 11 v RMS (League) AWAY  Mrs Cooper

Date : Tuesday 15th October 2019

Result : Lost 31-13

Squad : C.Wright, B.Patel, A.Hutchinson, J.Benveniste, G.Brass, M.Hayes, S.Narroway, E.Rowe

Commended performances : G.Brass voted for by opposition.

Comment : A game not reflected in the final score line and definitely one that the BMS team worked their socks off in.  Working hard throughout all areas of the court the girls stuck to their task and the target they had set themselves (based on last year’s score line) before the game was superseded. A great effort and always a pleasure to work with these ladies.
