Introduction to Parliament
On Wednesday this week we welcomed Kelly Stroud, Senior Education and Engagement Outreach Officer UK Parliament, into Bushey Meads to present an assembly to our Year 8 students and a cross section of our student leaders. The assembly was an Introduction to Parliament.
This interactive assembly was fast-paced and engaging, covering:
  • Democracy in Action: How Parliament actually works day-to-day.

  • The Big Players: The distinct roles of MPs and the House of Lords.

  • Law-Making: The journey of an idea from a proposal to a law.

  • Your Voice: Practical ways for young people to get involved and ensure their perspectives are heard by those in power

There was lots of hands up quizzing and some thought provoking questions asked.
 
The students came away from the assembly knowing that they had a voice and how they could go about making themselves heard.
