On Tuesday 11th February, world Safer Internet Day, our year 10 French GCSE students spent a lesson learning about French vocabulary associated with internet use, the dangers of the internet and advice for younger children on how to use the internet safely. This followed on from our whole-school assemblies last week. Students circulated around a carousel of 4 different activities, completing listening, translation and reading comprehension based around an authentic French internet site providing news to young readers – 1jour1actu.com. This site is a great source of French news articles, interviews and videos and was a great way to bring the subject to life and reinforce those all important messages about internet safety.

“The internet safety day lesson was a pleasant change because not only did I learn more French, but I was also able to learn more facts about the Internet, and also find out more about French culture and the youth in French. The activities covered a range of GCSE skills we will need. There was an activity each for listening, reading and writing, and plus there was teamwork too. All of this helped us learn more French and collaborative skills too. It was great fun!”
The students worked so well together in the hour and will now be taking their learning further to write up what they have learned for classroom displays.
