Bushey Meads School Celebrates ‘Flair Week’
Last week, Bushey Meads School celebrated ‘Flair Week’, a week-long event focused on celebrating the exceptional talents of our most able students across all faculties and subjects. The week was packed with exciting activities and events aimed at inspiring and challenging our students to reach their full potential.
In Maths, Mr Kasza organised the UMKT Junior Maths Challenge, which saw pupils tackle a range of challenging maths problems and puzzles. The competition was a great success, with students demonstrating their flair for problem-solving and logical reasoning.
For Spanish and Languages, we were delighted to welcome guest speaker William Harrop, who talked about how his language skills have enabled him to have a successful career in the world of sports production, particularly football. His talk was inspiring and highlighted the many opportunities that language skills can open up in a range of industries.
In Law, Ms Knowles arranged for a Flair Week guest speaker, Homicide Detective Steve Williams, who shared his experiences and insights into the world of criminal investigations. His talk was thought-provoking and gave students a fascinating insight into the work of a detective.
In English, Mr Carter organised Massolit Revision Sessions, targeted revision sessions for our most able students, using Massolit university lectures. These sessions provided valuable support for our students as they prepared for their upcoming exams.
For Creative Writing, students had the opportunity to complete a piece of creative writing, which will be entered into the Young Writers Competition. In addition, Y9 MA students visited Little Reddings to plan and teach a creative writing workshop to students in Y3, which was a wonderful opportunity for our students to develop their leadership and teaching skills.
In Biology, Miss Mehta arranged for Prof Stephen Price, a professor of developmental biology at UCL, to visit the school and run workshops for year 10 and year 12 students. His visit was a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with a leading academic in the field and gain valuable insights into the latest research in the area.
Overall, Flair Week was a great success, and we are proud of our most able students for their hard work, dedication and flair in their respective subjects. We hope that this week has inspired them to continue to strive for excellence and to reach their full potential.
