On Friday 19th November the art department had a visit from a local multidisciplinary artist, AD Dada. AD is a previous student of Miss Cole’s from Westfield Academy and is currently completing a masters degree in Fine Art at Goldsmiths University.
A level and GCSE art students were invited to take part in a talk that had been prepared to open their eyes to possible career options in the art industry. Miss Cole, Mrs Speker and Mrs Waring spoke briefly about their previous careers in the industry before handing the floor over to AD. Mrs Speker also shared the work her husband did in lockdown with his care home residence!
He spoke beautifully about his journey from school to university and all the opportunities he has had in between. He has managed to sell artwork, gain commissions for new work, exhibit in galleries, set up a clothing brand, and work with photographers, designers and other creative individuals along the way.
The students really enjoyed looking through the portfolios of work he brought along. They all listened so well and seemed to be really interested in what we all had to say. Hopefully it will broaden their ideas of possibilities in the art industry.
