RUGBY
Year 8 Boys RUGBY DEVELOPMENT TOURNAMENT Mr Harris
Date : Thursday 9th March 2023
Result : Won 4 games vs Reach Free, Grange Academy, Queens & St Michaels.
Squad: J. Cunningham, H. Hayward, L. Dimon, N. Konopka, F. Mordecai, M. Donnelly, E. Henry, K. Chester-Canavan, Z. O’Hara.
Comment : On Thursday afternoon, we went down to Watford RFC to take part against four local secondary schools in a rugby development festival. These festivals aim to support students in developing their understanding of rugby through competitive managed gameplay. The weather was not on our side after a day of snow before, followed by consistent rain on the day. Students in the team made a quick start against St Michaels in the first game, scoring a number of tries and making some excellent tackles to get a win. We went into the second game with some confidence against a strong Queens side. Once we got going in the game, we were tackling well and starting to organise ourselves better and we
managed to take another win in that game. There was some really strong tackling throughout but Z. O’Hara was confident and did not let many pass by him throughout the whole tournament. There was a great sense of team spirit amongst the group, working together, creating opportunities and allowing each other the chance to drive and score some tries. After Queens we met Reach Free and we were able to come away with another win in this game after an extremely strong performance. We then moved onto our final game of the tournament against a very strong Grange Academy side. We took the game to them, scoring two quick tries, before conceding one ourselves. We then were able to hold the ball up over the try line with some exceptional defending from M. Donnelly and F. Mordecai. We then worked hard in the game to secure a win with a try scored in the last play of the game to secure a victory. Overall it was an excellent performance from all involved at Rugby in some treacherous conditions. An excellent opportunity to develop our skills and get some gameplay under our belts. Well done to all involved!
BASKETBALL
Year 8 Boys v Rickmansworth (District League) HOME Mr Harris
Date: Friday 10th March 2023
Result: Lost 20 – 22
Squad: L. Avci, G. Amoako-Wiredu, N. Konopka, H. Hayward, J. Cunningham, J. Parkes, E. Henry, K. Chester-Canavan, K. Gibson, F. Mordecai, N. Walters.
Commended performances: K. Gibson, G. Amoako-Wiredu.
Comment: Friday after school saw Rickmansworth School visit Bushey Meads to face off in a fiercely contested basketball game. Going into the game we came off a busy week of fixtures in Year 8. We went into this game and started slow conceding some early baskets, but showed some excellent passing and movement on and off the ball which allowed N. Konopka scored an excellent layup. Into the second quarter of the game, we started fast in the second quarter where H. Hayward made two excellent layups to get us back onto level terms at 6 – 6, moving further into the second we managed to take that momentum and score some more points where he headed into halftime in the lead. Going into the third the pace slowed and we started to lose concentration, resulting in a number of fouls being given and by the end of it, the scores were still very close. Going into the final quarter of the game, we struggled to create many chances against the strong Rickmansworth defence. We had a two point lead going into the final two minutes of the game but unfortunately ended up conceding a late basket to take the game to overtime. In overtime we unfortunately gave up an easy layup and the game finished BMS 20 – 22 Rickmansworth. A great effort by all involved which ended in an unfortunate overtime loss. An excellent game of basketball Friday afternoon. We carry on to the next one, well done to all involved. The team showed an excellent attitude and commitment to school sport to stay behind on Friday to take part.

GIRLS FOOTBALL
Junior Girls v SJA (District League) Away Mrs Cooper
Date: Monday 13th March 2023
Result: Lost 3-0
Squad: M.Sharp, J.Fearnside, A.Chance, J.Frumuselu, A.Permeti, L.Mullane, Z.Chowdhury, Z.Spanbok
Commended performances: L.Mullane, J.Fernside
Comment: This was a good performance from the junior team, not reflected in the scoreline. The team showed good determination and defended well, lots of positive play in midfield sadly couldn’t be capitalised in front of goal where the SJA keeper also made a number of good saves. It was pleasing to see the progress the girls had made especially in terms of positioning and decision making. Well done ladies.

Senior Girls v SJA (District League) Away Mrs Cooper
Date: Monday 13th March 2023
Result: Lost
Goals Scorers: A.Chaudhry (1)
Squad: M.Cozens, L.Wheaton, N.Donald, A.Chaudhry, L.Dempster, I.Distin, I.Wijerathna
Commended performances: I.Wijerathna, L.Wheaton
Comment: A tough match for the senior girls against an unbeaten SJA squad with several academy players. However the BMS team did not give up and worked hard throughout the game with increasing pressure as the game went on. A.Chaudhry scored a well deserved goal for the team, in the second half, to take some consolation away from the game. As usual the girls were a pleasure to take to a fixture and true ambassadors for the school.
Well played ladies.
GIRLS NETBALL
Year 10 Girls District Tournament Away Mrs Cooper
Date: Tuesday 14th March 2023
Result: 4th place
Squad: M.Cozens, E.Hauff, J.Verrey, L.Krikler, E.Rogers, S.Mullings, N.Donald, P.Pryra
Commended performances: M.Cozens for POM in 3 matches.
Comment: This year’s district tournament was of really high standard and the girls did really well to finish in 4th position, especially considering the ‘giants’ on some of the opposition teams! Some excellent play was displayed by all teams throughout. The BMS defence (N.Donald, P.Pryra) were under lots of pressure but they kept working making interceptions and feeding the ball into the centre court players (S.Mullings, E.Rogers, L.Krikler and J.Verrey). Shooters M.Cozens, and E.Hauff worked hard to create and convert opportunities. It was lovely to see the girls working hard and enjoying their netball, they have been a credit all season and should be proud of their efforts. I think they were particularly pleased to receive a cookie and juice for their efforts! Well played ladies.
