Honouring Armistice Day Through Literature

This week, in commemoration of Armistice Day, our Key Stage 3 students immersed themselves in the poignant verses of “In Flanders Fields” by war poet John McCrae. Engaging in a variety of enriching tasks, students honed their analytical writing skills while delving into the profound themes of remembrance and sacrifice depicted in the poem. These activities not only enhanced their literary appreciation but also fostered a deeper understanding of the historical significance of Armistice Day.

The study of McCrae’s evocative work culminated in a moving two-minute silence, allowing students to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served in the wars. This collective moment of contemplation provided a powerful conclusion to their week’s studies, reinforcing the importance of remembering and honouring our past.
