DISTRICT CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS Mr Cartledge
Year 8 and Year 10
The second week of the annual Watford District Cross-Country Championships took place at Royal Masonic School in Rickmansworth on Wednesday last week.Again the races were extremely competitive with Year 8 and 10 races featuring between 80 -120 runners.. The Bushey Meads teams again showed great spirit and determination and a real desire to maximise performance. The Year 10 boys team produced our overall best team performance with a very positive 6th place out of 13 schools followed by a 7th place finish from the year 8 boys. Special mention to A Gates in Year 10 who was our highest placed finisher with a very impressive 7th place in the Year 10 Boys race. J Cunningham in Year 8 also came 8th in a fantastic performance in the Year 8 Boys race. Well done to all of our students who took part in the races – all were a credit to the school showing high levels of effort and commitment.
Other top 30 finishers included :
Year 8 Boys : K Gibson 20th
Year 8 Boys : L Bird 30th
Year 10 Boys : G Eldridge 26th
Year 10 Sports Studies Outdoor Education trips Mr Cartledge
As part of the assessment of the Outdoor Activities unit, the Year 10 Sports Studies group visited the Lee Valley Velopark at the Olympic Park on Tuesday. The group took part in a Mountain Biking and BMX session led by qualified instructors. They received some technical instruction about bike handling and then completed a series of assessable tasks. The experience also provided the students with excellent experience of the benefits and skills to be gained from taking in outdoor activities which forms the basis of their next assignment. Despite being new to the sports, the group did extremely well showing great enthusiasm and desire to improve their skill level.
Year 8 Boys RUGBY DEVELOPMENT TOURNAMENT Mr Harris
Date : Tuesday 15th November 2022
Result: Won 1, Lost 4
Commended performances: R. Cooper
Squad: H. Hayward, L. Dimon, N. Konopka, F. Mordecai, H. McManus, R. Cooper, R. Carbon-Felix, J. Walusimbi, M. Donnelly, K. Chester-Canavan
Comment: On Tuesday, the Year 8 boys took a trip to Watford Rugby Club to take part in a development festival with a number of different schools. During the event they took part in five different games against other schools from the district. The purpose of this event is for the development stage of rugby and for many of our students it was an excellent opportunity to increase their rugby knowledge. For those that play rugby outside of school it was a good chance for them to come along and also increase knowledge and take leadership by sharing their knowledge to other students at the tournament. During the games, the boys showed good resilience and commitment, making some big tackles in what were some wet conditions despite the sunshine. By the end of the festival, we ended up losing 4 games and winning 1. However in many of the games the boys worked extremely hard and defended well. R. Cooper was excellent throughout, he made some big tackles during the game and scored some excellent solo tries. R. Carbon-Felix also contributed and scored a few tries of his own. Between them, their physicality and strength caused other teams an issue. Well done to all involved, we have one fixture against Grange and a further festival in March. Until then we will keep working and developing our rugby in lessons and after school.
Year 7 Boys RUGBY DEVELOPMENT TOURNAMENT Mr Burnell
Date : Thursday 15th November 2022
Result : Won 2 Lost 3
Squad: B. Spencer, A. Brown, R. Hodgson, R. Doran, J. Seal, O, Ross, R. Payne, E, Pinto, J. Wright, A, Choudhry Shamas, M, Khan Jaji, O. Harris, A. Holder, P. Soteriou.
Comment : Thursday saw the year 7 Rugby team play in the local development tournament. This was the first experience of competitive rugby for most of the team and one which they really enjoyed. The tournament consisted of 5 other teams. We played each team once so it gave the team a good opportunity to play against a variety of opposition. The quality of rugby improved as the games went on, which resulted in some excellent tries being scored. Overall this was an excellent chance for the team to play competitive rugby and one I am sure they will all build on as we go into the season.
Year 7 Netball match v Grange Academy
Date : Tuesday 22nd November 2022
Result : Lost 12-6
Squad: M.Huryta, J.Isles, A.Permeti, E.Yeboah, Y.Khan, S.Verrey, A.Lankshear, E.Hanbury
Commended performances: A.Permeti voted for by opposition
Comment: A slow start put the BMS team on the back foot in this local derby and they were then unable to reduce the deficit. Although the centre court players successfully brought the ball up to the attacking third the shooters were unable to convert their chances as readily as their opposition. A big positive came in the third quarter where the end was drawn but unfortunately the game had slipped away. Lots of things to work on at training next week, and I’m sure the girl’s commitment and dedication will get us back to winning ways shortly.
Year 8 Netball match v Grange Academy
Date : Tuesday 22nd November 2022
Result : Lost 14-6
Squad: A Belghira, R Chaudasma, A Gibson, H Sookhoo, N Olubodun, K Shah, E Mullings, M Rumney
Commended performances: A Gibson for great defending in the circle.
Comment : The girls began the game a little nervous and as a result the passes were a little rushed and easily intercepted . The girls settled and began to pass better and also some interceptions were made. The Grange girls shooters were strong and unfortunately they began to pull away in the third quarter. The girls all tried hard and defended well down court. Well done to all players,
Year 9 Netball match v Grange Academy
Date : Tuesday 22nd November 2022
Result : Won 18-17
Squad: S Doran, V Hill, L Winslett, M Bazile, Z O’Brart, I Palan, L Qarib, E Bird
Commended performances- M Bazile for fantastic defending.
Comment – Wow this was quite an eventful game! Unfortunately due to poor sportsmanship of The Grange players our girls had to endure some unpleasant comments. This did not phase our girls and they carried on playing with a calm and respectful attitude. It was a very close game with both sides shooting very well and both teams playing some great netball. In the last 5 mins we were behind by 2 goals but with resilience and teamwork the girls secured the win in literally the last 20 seconds. A well deserved wn which the girls thoroughly deserved! A very proud moment! Well done to all players.
Year 10 Netball match v Grange Academy
Date : Tuesday 22nd November 2022
Result : Won 14-10
Squad: I.Payne, M.Cousins, E.Hauff, L.Krikler, E.Rogers, J.Verrey S.Mullings, N.Donald, P.Pryra, E.Avci
Commended performances: E.Hauff (voted for by opposition)
Comment : A game that was a lot more comfortable than the scoreline indicates for the yr 10 squad. Taking a dominant lead into the half time break there was some fantastic passing and moving up the court and the interchange from E.Hauff, M.Cosisn and I.Payne resulted in a flurry of goals. Defensively the BMS team had little to do but the second half of the game was a different story with The Grange beginning to reduce the deficit. The final quarter saw BMS continue to press in order to secure the deserved victory. Another great result. Well done girls.
