Enrichment day: Walk Talk Eat

I took a group of year 7,8 and 9’s to the Brick Lane area of East London for enrichment day. We were joined by and excellent tour guide Eddie on his Locals love: East End tour https://www.walkeattalkeat.com/

This tour weaves in and out of Brick Lane.We visited the old Jewish quarter and tried a salted beef bagel with pickle and mustard from one of London’s – oldest – still family run bagel bakeries and learned about their fascinating story. Afterwards, we sampled chocolate truffles from a lady called Nyanga who is from Ghana and learned about how she started off in Spitalfields market with just a small stall serving her amazing truffles to now having three stores (Dark Sugars) under her belt. Some of us also couldn’t resist buying the famous hot chocolate with the generous shavings of white and dark chocolate.

To finish, a drink of a now very popular Taiwanese export that has taken London by storm: bubble tea. Tapioca balls fused with many different types of juices / teas to have with.

Along the way we stopped and took in the amazing work and heard about the exciting and mysterious history of the area. It was a brilliant day and we even managed to travel part of the way on the new Elizabeth line!
