DISTRICT CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS Mr Cartledge

Year 7, 8, 9 and 10

The last week has seen the annual Watford District Cross-Country Championships take place at Royal Masonic School in Rickmansworth. The race days are some of the biggest sporting events held in the year and involve around 1000 students from local schools across all age groups from Years 7-13. Tuesday 14th November saw the events for Years 8 and 10 with the year 7 and 9 races taking place on Wednesday 15th november. 

 

Special mention to R Hodgson in Year 8, J Frumuselu Year 9 and  J Cunningham Year 9 who all finished in the top 10 in their respective races. Well done to all of our students who took part in the races – all were a credit to the school showing high levels of effort and commitment.

FORMER STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

We recently heard news of the fantastic achievements of our former student Abderrahim Tagrest. Abs left the school in 2021 and has continued to develop his passion for basketball. After representing England in the Commonwealth Games basketball competition he is now representing the GB Mens U23 squad. Last week the team competed in the Kitakyushi Champions Cup and won the tournament after winning all 5 of their games in the competition. The competition was an excellent development opportunity for players who have potential to play for the GB Men’s senior team. Year 10 Boys v Haileybury Turnford (County Plate) AWAY  Mr Cartledge

Comment :The year 10 boys got back to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 win over Haileybury Turnford in the County Plate competition. The boys dominated possession from start to finish creating lots of chances in open play. 3 well taken goals gave the boys a well deserved win.

 

Year 9 Boys v John Henry Newman (County Cup) AWAY  Mr Harris

Comment : A difficult Friday evening in Stevenage found us knocked out of the county cup to a strong John Henry Newman side. When we got playing, we struggled to get any possession of the ball for long periods of time. We were unable to play our football on a small pitch which meant that we lost the ball numerous times in silly areas. Little mistakes and moments of quality from them cost us the game and we ended up out of the county cup after a 3 – 0 defeat. A difficult few weeks being knocked out of two big competitions, however we move into our last game of the season in a few weeks after a busy term.

 

GIRLS FOOTBALL

U13 Girls v Westfield (League) AWAY  Mr O’Kelly

Comment : A resounding victory for the squad this week with some very attacking play seen from the whole squad. Taking advantage of the large pitch the girls worked harder across all positions to create chances and take those chances when they came. Moving the team around to play in different positions early in the first half meant that many players had new challenges posed and they all raised their play to meet those challenges. A fantastic effort and a result that was well deserved. 

 

 

 

U13 Powerleague Tournament @ Queens    Mrs Cooper

Commended performances : J.Fearnside fantastic effort and some great goals.

 

 

 

Comment : This was a tough tournament for the year 8 girls whose illness and injury depleted squad came up against some really strong opponents. We certainly didn’t have the luck of the draw playing Queens, Parmiters and Habs in the opening 3 games!! The girls worked really hard but were unable to secure the victories they needed to take them through to the next round. There was lots of progress through each of the matches with our best performance coming against Westfield in the final group game. The girls should be proud of their resilience and I’m sure they will build on this for their next game.  Well done ladies.

NETBALL

Year 9 Girls v RMS   (League)  Away   Mrs Cartledge

Result : Lost 11-5

Commended performances: H Sookhoo for excellent work as centre.

Comment: This was a tough game for the year 9 girls with RNS managing to intercept their passes in the first quarter. The girls improved their passing and began to find more space down court. A really good effort by all the team and in particular in defence with A Gibson and A Belghira making some fantastic interceptions and showing great teamwork in the circle. As always, 100% effort by all girls. Well done .

 

Year 10 Girls v RMS   (League)  Away   Mrs Cartledge

Date : Tuesday 21st November   2023 

Result : Won 18-15

Commended performances: M Bazile for outstanding play in attack and defence.

Comment: Once again the girls demonstrated such strong resilience and determination throughout the game. In the first quarter they were losing 5-1. In the second quarter the girls came back with stronger passing and fierce defending. They managed to score 7 goals to their 1! RMS were not giving up though going into the final quarter it was 13-13. The final quarter was tense and fortunately the girls kept their nerve and played out of their skins!  A fantastic performance with a well deserved win. Always a pleasure to watch these girls in action.

 

HOUSE NETBALL

This week has seen the start of the annual house netball competitions for years 8-10.  Year 11 will be taking part in their competitions after their exams and the year 7 competition will take place after Christmas.

The competition has been fierce with lots of fantastic play on show.

2 half year group competitions have been finalised, Ash (yr 10) and Elm (yr8) victorious, but with the other half year groups competitions still  ongoing there is much to play for.  More updates will follow next week but here are some pictures of the girls in action.

 

PE kit

It is essential that students have the full correct PE kit for all lessons. This includes shinpads and black /yellow socks when participating in football lessons and also a pair of white sports socks for all other activities. Students will be reminded when activities change. Students not bringing the correct kit will instantly receive consequence points.

Girls should be wearing plain black shorts which are longer than the length of their PE shirt or hoody. Leggings should be black sports leggings and not see through.  Black tracksuit bottoms are also permitted.

ALL jewellery should be removed prior to the start of the lesson, including earrings, and hair should be tied up.
