County League Athletics – Match 3
Date : Tuesday 17th May
On Tuesday 17th May it was Bushey Meads turn to host a County league match with the event taking place at the Woodside Stadium. It was a lovely sunny evening of athletics with nearly 20 staff in attendance helping out with the various officiating roles. It was another really tough match with two of the top athletics schools in St Clement Danes and Berkhamsted both competing as well as St Joan of Arc, Westfield and Abbots Hill Schools. Although we didn’t have any event winners on the night there were a number of 2nd places and lots of personal Bests which shows the progres the BMS athletes are making.

Year 7/8 Cricket v Grange Academy (Division 1)

Score : BMS 121 for 3 off 15 overs, Grange Academy 62 all out off 14.5 overs
Result : BMS won by 59 runs

Comment : The boys put on a strong performance to record a comfortable win over Grange Academy in the second match of the season. Batting first some excellent batting from G Holdback and G Guainiere saw a strong score over 100 recorded. It was great to then see 10 of the team bowl at least an over which showed the strength in depth in the esquad with Grange bowled out for 62. Well team done al l the boys who all made a great contribution to the win.

Comment : It was another close game for the Junior Boys cricket team that produced another very exciting finish. Some excellent bowling by H Neal and G Guainiere who both took 3 wickets each reduced Immanuel to 63 off their 15 overs. S Mowle played an excellent innings before falling for 16 with J Allan playing a very disciplined innings to keep the scoreboard moving before H Neal scored the winning 4 to close the game out in the last over. An excellent effort by all the boys in the team who have won 2 of the 3 games played so far.

Year 9/10 Cricket v Westfield(Division 1)

Comment : S. Galaiya started the batting for BMS with an excellent innings before being retired at 50 runs. T. Kannan batted very well scoring 37 runs before being bowled out. A strong innings from BMS led to a well deserved victory after a great game of cricket.

Junior Girls v WGGS (Friendly) HOME Mrs Cartledge

Player of Match : S. Doran for excellent bowling- voted by the opposition.

Comment:
This was the first game of the season after a long break from competitive games due to covid. The girls fielded first and had to deal with some very strong batters. Risha demonstrated some excellent fielding with accurate long throws and impressive sprints to retrieve the ball. In our batting innings the girls began to settle and we gained a few rounders. In our second fielding the girls improved and managed to get a few players out and Watford girls scored less rounders. The girls batting also improved and we scored more in the second innings. The girls are learning the tactics and the girls most importantly enjoyed the experience of a competitive match. Well done to all players for their hard work and determination on the pitch.

Comment: It was so lovely to see the girls back playing competitive rounders fixtures after 2 years. The combined year 9/10 squad took on WGGS with great spirit and a desire to win. Losing the toss they were put into bat and made a really impressive start to the game with rounders scored a plenty. A couple of lucky out’s put the team under pressure and with only 3 players left in, the innings was ended 3 balls short of the allocated 30. WGGS started slowly but soon found their feet and with some uncertainty in the BMS fielding, due only to a lack of match play, WGGS took a commanding lead at the end of the first innings.
In the second half both teams stepped up the intensity in the field, limiting their opponents scoring. Although the BMS team came out with a loss there are lots of positives to take into next week’s match and the most important thing were the smiles on the girls faces to be back playing rounders. Well done everyone involved.
