BASKETBALL
Y10 Boys v RICKMANSWORTH Mr O’Kelly
Date : Monday 14th March 2022
Results : Won 29-25
Squad : T Qarib, A Clark, A Khan, M Simmonds, H Wafi, R Puspasen, B Fletcher-Gray, Y Nagathevan, N Bryant
Commended performances : Y Nagathevan, N Byrant
Comment: A hard fought win that came following a 5 minute overtime period. Organised defensive play and strong rebounding against a team of much taller players meant that we managed to restrict the opposition to outside shots or strongly contested layups. A huge well done on a positive season and a great way to end the last game of the year with an overtime victory!

Comment: The year 8 boys team with 4 new recruits produced an excellent team performance in a good win over the Grange team. K Macfarlane-Gentles was outstanding throughout with excellent tackling and strong running in attack. The quality of the teams defence was excellent and there was particularly improved game understanding with the boys benefiting from playing more competitive rugby. It has been great to see the team spirit develop and special mention to S patel for his excellent captaincy and leadership qualities.
Y7 Boys v GRANGE ACADEMY (@ Watford RFC) Mr Harris

Squad : J. Cunningham, H. Hayward, Z. O’Hara, H. McManus, R. Carbon-Felix, H. Neal, B. Neulaender, J. Walusimbi, E. Henry, F. Mordecai, N. Konopka, K. Banfield.

Comment: Another fixture today for the Year 7 boys rugby, following on from their tournament late last week, we were looking to build upon what we learnt from last week’s fixture. We were facing the only team that we lost to last week in a hotly contested game. We started the game extremely well today, scoring two early tries from J. Cunningham. Soon after that we let our lead slip as Grange Academy scored some quick tries of their own as they broke through our defence. The game continued in a frantic fashion with tries being scored & E. Henry was one of those who added a try before half time. At the break, we discussed as a team that we need to ensure our heads don’t drop and that we need to continue looking at our shape, staying organised and committing to our tackles. In the second half we were more secure in defence, with some big tackles coming in from Z. O’Hara & N. Konopka. We managed to score more tries of our own in the second half, with R. Carbon-Felix and F. Mordecai added to the total. The longer we played, the more we grew into the game and the boys had an excellent attitude despite the torrential rain throughout the match. A tough match in the end, but progress from last time we played this side when we lost. Onto the next rugby match! Well done to all involved who played with an excellent attitude, sportsmanship and commitment.

Y9/10 Girls v The Grange Academy (Friendly) (away) Mrs Cooper
Date : Monday 14th March
Result : Won 22-3
Squad : L.Slight, H.Imansoura, K.Kovarova, R.Wheeler, P.Pryra, N.Donald, E.Hauff
Commended performances : N.Donald voted for by the opposition
Comment: This game saw a mix of students from yr 9/10 playing against The Grange Academy yr 10 team, BMS dominated the local derby from the start. With slick passing and accurate shooting a 6 goal lead at the end of the first quarter did not flatter the team Building on this in the next quarter and the victory was already secured. This allowed for the BMS players to come out of their comfort zone and play in positions they don’t usually experience – shooters in defence, defenders shooting and mid court players swapping around. The girls really showed their versatility and continued to dominate the game whilst playing with the correct ethos and levels of sportsmanship, a very comprehensive performance.
Y7 Girls District Tournament (away) Mrs Cartledge
Date : Tuesday 15th March
Results : Won V Reach Free, Future Academy and Westfield. Drew V Grange, Croxley and St Michaels. Lost V Immanuel.
Squad : L. Dene, H Sookhoo, Nya Olubodun, A. Khan, E Gjic, E Belghiru, A Gibson. S Lissner
Commended performances : H Sookhoo – nominated 6 times out of 7 from other schools for woman of the match.. E Gijic- nominated once
Comment: This was a great determined performance by the whole team. In the first game the girls displayed a few nerves and a few mistakes were made. However in the next game the girls began to settle and their passing improved down the court. The girls began to increase their interceptions and play was mostly in our attacking third. This improved play and consistent shooting enabled us to only lose one game. Well done to all year 7 players this was a fantastic effort and a great finish to the end of the season. A special mention to S.Lissner who stepped in to play at short notice.
The girls came third out of eight schools . Great result.
Y10 Girls v RMS B (League) (away) Mrs Cartledge
Date : Wednesday 16th March
Result : Won 15-13
Squad : L.Slight, H.Imansoura, K.Kovarova, R.Wheeler, S.Hindocha, A.Ashar, A.Deutrom, N Donald
Commended performances : A Deutron as voted by Royal Masonic. She demonstrated great interceptions and clearances out of the circle, A special mention also to R Wheeler for calm shooting and great positioning to win the ball.
Comment: This was a fantastic performance by all the girls and one of the best games I have watched at Bushey Meads. Every player worked hard to defend and intercept ,They also all moved really well to create space and passing opportunities. It was close throughout the game with only a one goal difference at half time and level at the third quarter. The girls never gave up and in the last quarter all players drew all their stamina and strength to give 100% effort and as a result pulled away by two goals.
An amazing performance by all girls and a very well deserved win.
