Over the last few weeks KS3 students have been working on a range of PE based challenges challenges in the BMS PE Home Learning Booklet. It has been great to see students take an interest in the physical benefits of exercise and fitness by raising their understanding of a range of theoretical aspects of PE. Anton B in Year 9 has been so inspired by Joe Wicks that he has started designing his own HIIT workouts which he completes every day to boost his fitness levels.

We as PE staff are very mindful of the importance of all staff and students maintaining their exercise levels. The PHYSICAL and MENTAL benefits to be gained from completing some form of exercise on a daily basis are well documented. To coincide with the change in the lockdown down rules and the opportunity for everyone to do more physical activity we have launched the Exercise Tracker document for all KS3 students to track the exercise they are doing at the moment.

It would be great for us to see you are keeping active and healthy at home. A reminder there are a wide range of smartphone training apps you can use to help you track your activity including STRAVA, NIKE RUNNING CLUB, MAPMYFITNESS, MAPMYRUN and MAPMYRIDE which might help provide further motivation for you.

The PE Faculty staff have been trying to balance their family commitments and home schooling and teaching duties with the need to regularly keep active. All have been trying to keep up their exercise levels with a whole mixture of different training programmes and workouts. As a keen cyclist the lockdown has presented an excellent opportunity to explore the surrounding Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire countryside and this week I managed to reach 1000 miles on the bike during the lockdown period. Mr Searle has been completing the Joe Wicks workouts with his three sons every day and has also set up a 10 station circuit training programme in his garden. Mrs Wright has been completing 5k runs with one of her children every other day and then completing a ‘Body Project’ HITT workout on other days. Mr Burnell has been running a 5k three times a week, an hours bike ride three times a week and a 20 minute HITT workout each day. Mrs Cartledge has been running 6 days a week and completing daily HIIT workouts led by Joe Wicks and Pamela Reif. Mrs Cooper also completes the Joe Wicks workout every day with her sons, goes on regular runs and bike rides and also completes an online fitness class led by a friend. Mr Piper is training for an Olympic Triathlon (1500m swim, 40km cycle, 10k run) that is scheduled to take place in September and has been running and cycling regularly throughout the lockdown. Mr Symeou has been alternating daily between running 5km and completing home circuit sessions using very little equipment, mostly body weight exercises and skipping.
