The Textiles department has been buzzing with creativity this term as our Year 9 students have dived into the world of surface design. The students have been hard at work mastering the art of block printing, a technique that allows them to transfer their unique artistic visions onto fabric.
The project has required students to design and use modern materials to create a simple but effective printing block. Using fabric paints and precision, they experimented with colour combinations and placement to create their own custom fabrics. The final stage – which is currently underway with our final groups of this term – involves using the sewing machines to construct their printed fabric into functional, durable tote bags.
It has been fantastic to see the students combine artistic flair with technical sewing skills. We can’t wait to see the finished bags being used around school!
