Y7 Oxford trip 03.06.2025

Last Thursday, our Year 7 students had the fantastic opportunity to visit the historic city of Oxford. The aim of the trip was to inspire curiosity and broaden their horizons by introducing them to the rich academic and cultural heritage of one of the world’s most prestigious universities. The day consisted of a guided one-and-a-half-hour walking tour of the city. Led by experienced guides, the students explored some of Oxford’s most iconic landmarks and gained fascinating insights into the life and history of the University.

Among the highlights was a visit to the Weston Library, the main research library of the University of Oxford. Here, students learned about the library’s role in supporting academic research and its impressive collections of rare manuscripts and historical documents.

They also visited Christ Church College, where they were especially excited to see the famous dining hall used in the filming of the Harry Potter movies.

There was also a stop at the Sheldonian Theatre, an architectural masterpiece designed by Sir Christopher Wren. Students were intrigued to discover that this beautiful building is where official university ceremonies, including graduations, take place.

Students also visited the iconic Bridge of Sighs, a picturesque skyway at Hertford College often likened to its Venetian namesake.

Throughout the day, the students modelled our school’s ethos as they were respectful and kind to members of the public, showing great enthusiasm and engagement with the tour guides. Well done Year 7s!
