GCSE and A-Level Art & Photography Trip to Barcelona
Over the spring term, a group of our GCSE and A-Level Art and Photography students enjoyed an exciting four-day trip to Barcelona. Known for its rich culture, colourful streets and world-famous architecture, the city offered the perfect setting for students to gather ideas, take photographs and sketch in new surroundings.
Exploring the City’s Art and Architecture
From the moment we arrived, students were inspired by Barcelona’s mix of old and new. We visited Gaudí’s famous Sagrada Família, where students were able to study the incredible detail and structure of the building up close with the help of our fantastic guide Marti. At Park Güell, students explored the vibrant mosaics and bold shapes, making lots of visual notes and taking reference photos for their projects.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC). This museum, located on Montjuïc hill, holds a huge collection of Catalan art, ranging from medieval to modern times. Students had the chance to learn more about how art has developed over time and how different periods and styles connect to their own work. The views from the museum were also a bonus—offering a fantastic photo opportunity!
Capturing the City Through Photography
Photography students made great use of Barcelona’s busy streets, markets, and historic buildings. The natural light, textures and variety of subjects allowed them to experiment with composition and camera settings in ways they can’t always do in the classroom. Whether it was capturing movement, shadows, or details in the Gothic Quarter, there was no shortage of inspiration.
New Experiences and Lasting Memories
As well as developing their creative work, the trip gave students the chance to gain confidence, work together, and experience a different culture. They navigated the metro, tried new foods, and showed real independence and enthusiasm throughout. Staff were proud of how well they represented the school at all times.
Looking Ahead
It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved, and we’re excited to see how the trip influences students’ coursework and upcoming exam pieces. A big thank you goes to all the staff who helped to organise the trip and supported the students throughout, and to all the families for making it possible.
We look forward to organising another trip for next year!
