Saracens Mavericks v Celtic Dragons @ Sports Village Hatfield
It was a privilege to take some students from the school netball squads to watch the super league Netball fixture between Saracens Mavericks and Celtic Dragons on Saturday afternoon.
Following on from the success of last year’s trip the students were again keen to see the highest level of league netball in the country.
All students who have been attending netball clubs were offered a place (on a first come basis) on the trip in recognition of their hard work this season, a nice way to acknowledge the students’ efforts and end another positive season.
A lunchtime meet at school and a short trip to Hatfield before the match start at 2pm. Seeing the high intensity warm ups gave an interesting insight into elite sport and the fitness and skill competency required at this level. It was nice to see the girls recognising some of the drills used in training at this high level, albeit at a whole different intensity!
It was a great spectacle of top level netball with the ball being fizzed around the court at high speed, and some amazing, footwork, interceptions and shooting on display.
Mavericks went into an early lead and built on this throughout the game with their inspirational captain and England player Sasha Corbin running the show at WA.
The final score an impressive 61-46.
A lovely way to spend an afternoon with a fantastic and dedicated bunch of young netballers who have been an asset to the school all season.
