Specially Commissioned Flower Planter

Last year during the Autumn Term, Travis in Year 8 attended an important meeting in my office and shared a vision he had created with Mr Smith, our Outdoor Education Coordinator, to place outdoor education firmly on the map within our school curriculum. He managed to secure £3000 of funding which started an exciting journey. Since then the outdoor education provision has grown exponentially from the construction of an Ed-Shed, the provision of a path to Ed-Shed, raised beds, recycled pallet tables, benches and chairs, the creation of a compost area, a specially designed workshop area inside the shed, a growing number of plants and vegetables, the opportunity to toast marshmallows around a fire pit……………the journey continues each and every day!

This photo reflects another exciting step in the development and shows Travis handing over a specially constructed Pallet-Planter to our Chair of Governors and Trustee Mrs Hoeksma. The bright yellow planter, carefully designed with shelves for different size plant pots and to aid water drainage, was purchased by Mrs Hoeksma as a special commision. The money from her purchase will go towards future funding of the Outdoor Education programme and will hopefully be the first of many steps along the road to supporting all the students who are benefiting from this exciting additional dimension to our curriculum at Bushey Meads School.
