ENRICHMENT DAY
CNAT Sports Studies/ASDAN Sport trip
The new CNAT Sports Studies and ASDAN Sport groups enjoyed a great trip to the Lee Valley White Water Centre to support their coursework tasks. The water park is the closest Olympic venue from the London 2012 games and is a training hub for Team GB kayaking and canoeing teams.
Firstly we arrived and took a tour of the site with the boys enjoying the opportunity to stand on the Olympic podium. Following this the group completed a 1 hour kayaking session with the site instructors followed by a water wipeout challenge. It was great to see the boys trying new activities in testing conditions.Al the the boys were a credit to the school and we look forward to further trips in the future.
GCSE PE
The GCSE group put their theory into practice and took part in various Fitness Testings in the morning including muscular endurance tests and submaximal cardiovascular endurance tests. Following this, a professional Badminton Coach was invited to help advance the group’s skills, a great benefit to their practical grades in GCSE. They focused on numerous skills, types of shots, tactical play and the group really enjoyed this challenge. The afternoon was focused on movement analysis where students worked in small groups to create a presentation using practical examples of the musculoskeletal system movements used within the Fitness suite.
FOOTBALL
Year 11 Boys v St Clement Danes (District PREM League) AWAY Mr Cartledge
Date : Tues 1st October 2024
Result : Won 2-0
Scorers : M Wong, Z Bertie
Squad : J Gladdy (Capt), Z Watson, B Okeke, M Wong, A Worth, G Guainiere, S Mowle, Z Bertie, E Ansa Otu, R Christou Totesaut, K Fung, J Allan
Commended performances : Whole team !
Comment : The Year 11 boys produced one of their best ever performances to claim a well deserved win over St Clement Danes. In very testing conditions the boys thrived on the opportunity to play on a 4g astroturf producing an excellent display of possession and counter attacking football. A very close first half saw BMS take the lead with 2 really well worked goals from M Wong and Z Bertie. The boys then dealt very well with a spell of SCD pressure in the second half and produced some outstanding counter attacking moves to nearly add to the lead in the 2nd half. The boys can be really proud of their efforts.
Year 10 Boys v St Joan of Arc (District PREM League) HOME Mr Harris
Date : Tues 1st October 2024
Result : Won 5 – 3
Scorers: F. Fowler, N. Konopka, K. Gibson (2), R. Cooper
Squad: J. Hiett (GK), M. Donnelly, J. Cunningham, N. Konopka, L. Bird, K. Banfield, R. Cooper, L. Avci, K. Gibson, H. McManus, N. Walters, F. Fowler, H. Wills
Commended performances: R. Cooper, M. Donnelly, K. Gibson, J. Hiett (GK)
Comment: A whole afternoon of torrential rain made for a tough game of football on Tuesday evening when St Joan of Arc came to Bushey Meads. As the rain poured, we began the game extremely well, playing some good football and really winning the ball back in the centre of the pitch. We took an early league as F. Fowler held off the defender and slotted home. After a few more close chances, we scored again from a corner at the near post which N. Konopka turned in. After this, had a period where we switched off for 10 minutes and in that time lost our composure and lost our lead, 2 – 2. Next up was K. Gibson who again took it past a few defenders and smashed it home just before half time. Into the second half we managed to retain our lead throughout, creating more and more chances in worsening conditions. R. Cooper danced carefully through the St Joan of Arc defence, using some excellent footwork and slotted it past the keeper and then finally, K. Gibson got himself on the score sheet again to make it 5 – 2. In the dying seconds of the game, we gave away another goal. J. Hiett had a fantastic game in horrific conditions yesterday, committed to diving in puddles and standing in the rain for large durations with little to do.
GIRLS FOOTBALL
U15 girls v St.Michaels (District League) HOME Mr O’Kelly
Date : Wednesday 25th September 2024
Result : Lost 4 – 0
Squad : Z. Chowdhry, M. Sharp, L. Mullane, M. Huryta, M. Hooper, J. Frumuselu, O. Isaac, A. Permeti, J. Herman, L. Brown
Commended performances : Z. Chowdhry (voted by the opposition)
Comment : A tough game against a strong opposition saw the team have to defend well throughout the play. With Z. Chowdhry playing a blinder in goal, making save after save denying the opposition throughout the first half. Conceding a penalty early in the second half for handball saw the team lose a little of their confidence and St Michael’s score again quickly after. A difficult game against a strong opposition who will likely do very well in the league this year. If the squad can take this effort into their next game, I am sure they will cause the opposition more trouble and come away with a positive result.
NETBALL
Year 8 v Futures Academy Watford (District League) Away Miss.Sunpongco
Date : Wednesday 25th September 2024
Result : Lost
Squad : R. Grainger, L. Mysiak, B. Lesworth, E. Gillett, Z. Dunlop, E. Hughes, Y. Galapaththinge, and M. Collins
Commended performances : B. Lesworth (voted by the opposition)
Comment: A great competition for the girls as the first match of the year. The defence worked hard all throughout the game, Eve and Yeshani with great interceptions and rebounds to gain possession. The centre court players worked really hard to get the ball down court along with our shooters in the attack. Unfortunately, the girls didn’t get enough goals but their determination will be key to success this year. Well done girls.
