Squad : D Isles (GK), O Phillips (Capt), E Rumney, N Gibson, C Allan, G Jabarkhail, D Mason, G Fogden, A Cohen, Z Butler, T Colby
Commended performances : D Isles, N Gibson
Comment : The Year 7A team became the first BMS team to clinch a place in next term’s District League Finals with a comfortable win over Westfield. This made it 6 wins out of 6 for the team in the League. Special mention to N Gibson who scored 5 goals in an outstanding individual performance and D Isles who filled in at short notice in goal and had an excellent game. Well done boys !
Year 9B Boys v St Clement Danes (District League) AWAY Mr Harris
Date : Monday 4th December 2023
Result : Won 4 – 0
Scorers : K. Banfield, A. Nakazawa, B. Hughes
Squad : A. Millar (GK), W. Horton, Z. O’Hara, M. Donnelly, A. Nakazawa, D. Alter, K. Banfield, R. Carbon-Felix, J. Lelliott, E. Hillary, C. Hackett-Goldsmith, B. Hughes, K. Chester-Canavan, Z. Woolf.
Commended performances : A. Millar (GK), D. Alter, M. Donnelly, A. Nakazawa.
Comment : Following our last fixture vs Immanuel, the 9B side came up against St Clement Danes (SCD) on Monday afternoon. A cold and wet day, we played on a difficult pitch that was difficult to play football on at times. However, a few excellent through balls and chasing work, A. Nakazawa was able to get on the end of the pass and slot home past the SCD goalkeeper. A. Nakazawa caused some trouble down the right hand side of the pitch in the first half beating his defender for pace. Later in the half K. Banfield was able to make it 3 – 0 after capitalising on a mistake from the goalkeeper and slotting home into an empty net. Moving into the second half we were going uphill and as a result were struggling to create as many chances. A. Millar made a few excellent saves to keep SCD out throughout the game and a real excellent performance from him. Late on in the second half, B. Hughes took a shot from outside the box which lofted over the goalkeeper and into the goal taking the score to 4 – 0. Overall an excellent performance from many involved. M. Donnelly & D. Alter at the back with a special mention for their organisation.
GIRLS RUGBY
Year 8/9 Girls District Development Festival @ Watford RFC Mr Kwok
Date : Tuesday 21st November 2023
Squad : P.Num, L.Macdonald, L.Bateman. T.Faye, J.Mhizha, M.Blake (Capt), K.Blackwell, A.Pointer
Comment: On Tuesday a select group of Year 9 girls travelled to a Development Rugby Festival at Watford Rugby Club. The tournament began with a coaching session by Watford Rugby Club coaches followed by games against Reach Free School and The Grange Academy. Bushey Meads started against Reach Free where we had good spells in possession but Reach Free were more clinical in attack, scoring 5 tries but BMS managed to score a consolation try through captain Martha B. BMS came up next against The Grange Academy in which we enjoyed a good victory with captain Martha notching a hat trick and Layla adding a 4th try. BMS were more organised in defence and put in some nice passages of play. It was a good win which the girls no doubt enjoyed and look forward to potential matches next term.
NETBALL
Year 7 v RMS (Friendly) Away Mrs Cooper
Date : Monday 27th November 2023
Result : Lost 13-10
Squad : E.Hughes, K.Shah, Z.Dunlop, B.Lesworth, E.Gillett, M.Andronicou, L.Mysiak, R.Grainger
Commended Performances: K.Shah for some great defending and interceptions
Comment: A really positive performance from the year 7 squad. This was a close game that saw both teams take the lead at various points in the game. RMS took an early lead in the first quarter before the scores were levelled at half time. Some great shooting from BMS saw them edge into the lead before the RMS team pulled away in the last quarter. It was really good to see the improvements in both technical play and decision making that the girls have made in the past few games. Great job everyone!
Year 11 v RMS (District League) Away Mrs Cooper
Date : Monday 27th November 2023
Result: Lost 13-14
Squad : A.Chaudhry, E.Hauff, E.Rogers, M.Cozens, E.Avci, N.Donald, P.Pryra
Commended Performances: N.Donald and excellent defensive display.
Comment: Grrrr pipped at the last! The year 11 squad were so unlucky to lose this fixture. An illness ravaged team fought really hard throughout the game but, with no subs, ran out of legs in this fast paced match, in the final minutes. As always the girls worked hard in all areas of the court and their teamwork and encouragement of each other is a real positive of their play. They at least deserved a point from the game but sadly it wasn’t to be this week. Well played ladies, we go again next week.
Year 9 v The Grange Academy (District League) Home Mrs Cartledge
Date : Tuesday 5th December 2023
Result: Won 25-8
Squad : A. Gibson. A Belghiru. H Sookhoo. R.Chudasma E Mullings. N Edirisuriya M. Rumney.
Commended Performances: E Mullings for great interceptions throughout the game.
Comment: The girls began strong with some impressive shooting by both N.Edirisuriya and M.Rumney. By the end of the first quarter the girls were leading by three goals, In the second quarter the girls improved the height of their passes and less interceptions occured. During the game all the girls created lots of space on court by continual running and dodging. By half time the girls had increased their lead to 5 goals. In the last half fantastic defending by A Gibson and A Belghiru led to the Grange only scoring 8 goals in total. I think this was the best performance by all the girls this season. Continued hardwork and teamwork won them the game. Well done Girls.
Year 7 v Futures Academy Watford (District League) Away Mrs Cartledge
Date : Wednesday 6th December 2023
Result: Lost 5-3
Squad : E.Hughes, K.Shah, Z.Dunlop, B.Lesworth, E.Gillett, M.Andronicou, L.Mysiak, R.Grainger
Commended Performances: L Mysiak for great attacking and defending skills.
Comment: The girls began a little nervous and this resulted in them rushing their passes. With more confidence the girls began to improve their passing and defending skills. The score at half time was 2-0 to Futures Academy. In the second half the girls’ scoring improved and we managed to score three goals. A good performance by all the girls. Well done.
Year 8 v Futures Academy Watford (District League) Away Mrs Cooper
Date : Wednesday 6th December 2023
Result: Won 17-4
Squad : J.Isles, M.Hurtya, S.Verrey, A.Parmeti, L.Vincente, E.Yeboah, Y.Khan
Commended Performances: M.Hurtya for excellent shooting
Comment: Another dominant victory for the year 8 team in the district league.
They started well, scoring from their first centre pass and then never looked back. Showing superiority in all areas of the court they worked well as a team to turnover possession and convert the chances they created. FAW never really managed to get back into the game and BMS took an 8-3 lead into the half time break before dominating the third quarter and consolidating their lead in the final end. Well played everyone.
GCSE PE Mockeration – Mrs Cooper
Monday 4th December saw the first of several important practical mockerations for the Year 11 GCSE PE group. A compulsory part of the course, with grades used to support the recent PPEassessments, students were selected to attend the practice moderation (mockeration) depending on the activities they are to be assessed in. For this mockeration the focus was on badminton and table-tennis and students travelled to St.Margaret’s school to play against students from Watford boys, St.Margarets and King Alfreds school in Golders Green. This is an invaluable opportunity for the students who experience how a moderation runs helping alleviate any concerns they may have. For staff it ensures that marking is consistent and fair across staff within individual schools and the cluster of schools who all follow the same exam board. Vital video evidence was also gathered in order to support student grades.
The students involved worked hard and were, as usual, a credit to the school. A successful evening all round.
PE kit
It is essential that students have the full correct PE kit for all lessons. This includes shinpads and black /yellow socks when participating in football lessons and also a pair of white sports socks for all other activities. Students will be reminded when activities change. Students not bringing the correct kit will instantly receive consequence points.
Girls should be wearing plain black shorts which are longer than the length of their PE shirt or hoody. Leggings should be black sports leggings and not see through. Black tracksuit bottoms are also permitted.
ALL jewellery should be removed prior to the start of the lesson, including earrings, and hair should be tied up.
For any parental enquiries about any aspects of PE contact the Head of PE and Health Faculty Ashley Cartledge cartledgea@busheymeads.org.uk . For any specific issues related to Girls PE and girls fixtures contact Sarah Cooper coopers@busheymeads.org.uk.
