The Humanities Department were lucky enough to invite Alumni member and last years Head Boy, Tom Harverson back to Bushey Meads to share his experiences during his first year at university in Sheffield. Tom attended lessons with both Mr Lyley and Miss Sumpter, across key stages 4 and 5 to share tips on revising effectively, how to get the best A Level results through exam technique, coursework tips and even moderated some GCSE History exam questions with Mr Lyley. It was great to have Tom back to speak to the students, and it certainly helped to showcase to students how it’s not always ‘how much you know’, but how to use your time wisely and effectively that gets the best results. I’m sure we will hear from Tom again in the future and we wish him the best of luck.

In RE we enjoyed watching students deliver fantastic presentations in year 8 on their inspirational people and creating quizzes to assess each other’s recall. Year 12 and year 10 have been showing off their talents by using playdough to create  visual teachings of the sacraments in varying denominations. (Will send photos)

In PSHE Year 9 have been looking at conflict management – they have been roleplaying different scenarios; considering how to deal with situations in a public place and if it was in a professional setting.
Year 8 have been looking at mental health at school – discussing what facilities they would include – they needed to stick to a budget and present their ideas (half way through though).
Year 10 have looked at stalking and harassment – they have debated what counts as stalking, the sentence time for being convicted of stalking and how it may differ for different actions and who the stalker is (online/physical) (never speaking to them/engaging in conversation) (male/female).
