Monday Magic Moment

The week for staff started in a very positive manner with a superb ‘Monday Magic Moment’ at the end of our Staff Briefing meeting in the Main Hall on Monday morning. Head of Faculty for PE & Health Mr Cartledge and Second in Faculty Mrs Cooper explained to staff about all the various strategies employed within the faculty to support the key agenda of marking and feedback in their subject – a subject that can be potentially  more challenging than others when capturing where the students are at and the next steps that they need to take.

The short presentation was packed full of great ideas and reflected many years of excellent leadership and a desire to see students engaged and excelling in all aspects of physical exercise at Bushey Meads. Mr Cartledge explained the rationale used for assessment which is based around a ‘Head Hands Heart’ assessment framework that is becoming more embedded in PE lessons across all year groups in the school. Mrs Cooper also highlighted how the whole school assessment strategies are also being effectively used in GCSE lessons to support outstanding progress. Students are well aware of where they are at in their learning and the next steps that they need to take to improve their attainment further.
I would like to congratulate the PE & Health Faculty for being a flagship faculty in the area of engaging students in this key area of marking and feedback and for the excellent practice they are able to share across the school.
