Mrs Hanbury’s Year 10 food students had a real culinary treat last week when they had an online visit from the Ming-Ai (London) Institute. Two healthy eating Chinese ambassadors logged onto our google meets from the FUN:) HCCA Project.
The Fun HCCA project usually visit Bushey Meads every year to talk, demonstrate and cook with our food students in Year 9, 10 and 12. This was slightly different. This year we had an interactive session learning about the traditional festivals, dishes, ways of cooking and why you may choose to cook in a certain way.
The ambassadors sent us a recorded live video demonstration of Hoisin Chicken and have provided us with enough marinating sauces for the whole class
Well done to all of Mrs Hanbury’s GCSE Year 10 Food group.
Comments from the students:
I really enjoyed learning about the Chinese culture and cooking the dish! I will definitely try and recreate the dish at home.
I found the session a new experience in the way we made a meal which was from a different culture. I learned important information about the backgrounds of the food too and where it originates from.
I think the added skills they gave me will help when I continue to cook in Year 10
