From Robots to Recipes, Our STEM Clubs Are...
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting our STEM clubs running at Bushey Meads. The energy and enthusiasm from students has been fantastic, eager to get started, learn and be creative.
On Monday after school, I visited the Technology Club, run by Mrs Parkinson. After a challenging year previously, the club is back and buzzing with life.
The STEM Ambassadors and new members were hard at work assembling the VEX Robotics kits, while others were working on the Mars rovers and other types of vehicles. The room was full of energy and teamwork, with students demonstrating engineering mindsets and living our school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Relationships.
On Tuesday after school, I stopped by the Food Tech Club, run by Mrs Hanbury. The Young Chef Cooking Club has been a huge hit!
Last week, students kicked things off with a much loved pasta dish, while this week they were busy creating fruity desserts from apple crisp and crumbles to cheesecake and even choux buns!
Next week, they’ll be diving into stir fries, exploring food groups in a fun, hands-on way. All students are welcome, come along next Tuesday and join the cooking adventure!
Finally, on Friday lunchtime, I dropped into the Maths Club, where Mr Kasza had set up a brand new hands-on activity. Students worked on colourful, shape rearranging challenges designed to form shapes such as an equilateral triangle, a regular octagon and a regular pentagon.
One of the highlights was the famous “Haberdasher’s Puzzle,” first shown by Henry Dudeney in 1905. Two of the puzzle sets had even been made right here at Bushey Meads in our own Tech department, a brilliant collaboration!
It has been inspiring to see so many students getting involved in our STEM clubs. These clubs are not to be missed. Come along, take part and be part of the excitement.
