Exceeding Target Grades
At Bushey Meads we are always incredibly proud of the results students achieve in their external GCSE and A level examinations. What we like to celebrate even more than achieving the top grades is where students exceed their data generated target grades.
Exam results from the summer indicate that many students ‘added value’ through exceeding their target grades.
For A level students as a whole within our highly inclusive Sixth Form provision, 6% were expected to attain a grade A or A*. This target was exceeded by an impressive 5%, with an impressive 11% of grades graded at A or A*.
When you then add in the students achieving grades from A* – B, again the school exceeded the target of 25%, with 32% of students achieving a grade A*, A or B in their final examinations.

The Level 3 BTECs were equally successful with 20% of grades awarded at the Distinction or Distinction* level (equivalent to an A or A* at A level), compared to the target of only 12%.

Altogether, this led to a positive value added score of 0.2, this equates to 1 in 5 students achieving one grade higher than their target grade.
For our GCSE students, an impressive 18% of grades were awarded at a 7, 8 or 9 level (equivalent to the old A-A* measure).
In the core subjects of maths and English, students at Bushey Meads school exceeded the national picture.
In maths, 66% of students achieved a grade 4 or higher compared to 58.2% nationally.
In English literature, 78% of students achieved a grade 4 or higher compared to 74% nationally.
In English language, an impressive 72% of students achieved a grade 4 or higher compared to only 59,7% nationally.
The data demonstrates that alongside a positive attitude to learning and outstanding attendance (of at least 96%) students within Bushey Meads are able to exceed their potential.
The very best of luck to all the Year 11 and Year 13 students who are sitting their PPEs next week.
