This week’s poignant Assemblies on the theme of the Week Tolerance were superbly delivered by Head of Faculty Mr Lyley and Advanced Lead Teacher MIss Sumpter and tied in perfectly with Holocaust Memorial Day (this year on Tuesday 27th January), a day when communities across the world remember the six million Jewish men, women and children and the millions more from various different people groups were murdered under Nazi persecution. It is a time to also learn about and commemorate persecutions and genocides that have taken place in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia
The Holocaust and similar genocides threaten the fabric of civilization and remind us that discrimination and persecution must still be resisted every day. Our world at times often feels fragile and vulnerable and we mustn’t be complacent. Wherever it takes place prejudice and the language of hatred needs to be challenged by us all. That is why at Bushey Meads School we talk so much about Respect, Relationships and Responsibility and having A Mind to be Kind, remembering that we don’t always have to agree with other people’s views and beliefs, but that we can still show kindness and compassion to everyone.
