We are committed to developing oracy at Bushey Meads School as a key aspect of our teaching and learning approach. Oracy is the ability to express oneself fluently and coherently through speech. We believe that strong communication skills are essential not only for academic success but also for preparing students to thrive in the wider world.
Oracy is woven into the fabric of our curriculum across all subjects. Whether through group discussions, debates, presentations, or collaborative projects, students are encouraged to articulate their ideas, listen actively, and engage with others in meaningful conversations. These activities help build confidence, improve critical thinking, and foster a deeper understanding of the content being studied.
We know that oracy is essential for developing other important skills, such as empathy, resilience, and teamwork. By providing a range of opportunities for students to speak and listen in different contexts, we support their social and emotional development as well as their academic growth.
At Bushey Meads, our focus on oracy is part of our wider commitment to holistic education. We recognize that effective communication is a lifelong skill that will benefit our students not only in their studies but also in their future careers and personal lives. Through oracy, we are empowering students to become confident, articulate, and thoughtful individuals.
