A Taste of Things to Come

Our Year 10 Food Preparation and Nutrition students are getting a sneak peek into their NEA tasks, setting the stage for their Year 11 practical exams. Recently, they completed the Food Science task and are now gearing up for the Food Preparation task, which will culminate in a scheduled 2-hour exam. The Brief: Italian and Healthy.

For their upcoming food preparation task, students are challenged to plan, prepare, cook, and present two dishes that embody an Italian and healthy theme. The 2 dishes must be suitable for one person.

To meet this challenge, students have been diligently researching suitable dishes. They’ve honed their technical and presentation skills by selecting and cooking recipes that align with the brief. These practice sessions will culminate in cooking the final two dishes during their end-of-year Year 10 PPEs.

In addition to their practical preparation, students are revising for their written PPEs, scheduled for July 4th. They are also required to produce a detailed step-by-step time plan to efficiently manage the cooking and preparation during the 2-hour practical exam.

Ms. Amao’s Group: Practical exam on Friday, July 5th, 2024.
Mrs. Hanbury’s Group: Practical exam on 8.30 Tuesday, July 16th, 2024.

Students must arrive at 8.30 a.m. to complete their mise-en-place before the exam starts.
Feast your eyes on a selection of the technical dishes our students have created in the past few weeks. Their hard work and creativity are evident in every dish, promising a bright future for these young chefs.
