New GCSE art classes

The new year 10 GCSE art classes have started with a bang! We have an amazingly talented cohort across the 2 classes and we have enjoyed every minute with them so far.

Both classes have started the term doing a project based on the theme of Identity. Whilst each class is looking at the work of slightly different artists each week, the projects have been designed to show students the different possibilities of materials, techniques and development of ideas. Soon the students will start to find some of their own ideas and then develop and refine their work further, working towards a final piece for the project. The beauty of the project Identity, is that the final piece doesn’t necessarily have to be a portrait….
Last week Miss Cole’s class produced some excellent monoprints linked to the work of Dan Hillier. They produced a minimum of 3 prints and then were able to edit one or two of the prints further to demonstrate their own response to the artist.
Both classes have also produced some work on the artist Iain Macarthur. They all seemed to really enjoy the strong graphic style using black and white patterns, with a combination of delicate tonal portraits.
