Inspiring A level Art Lesson
It was a real privilege to visit Miss Cole and her A level Year 12 Art class on Monday of this week and see such inspiring work being undertaken and completed. Amazing progress was being made by the students who were all really enjoying the A level and excelling at their art work. Miss Cole showed me three stunning large-scale pieces being exhibited in the Bushey St James Trust Gallery that the students had just finished creating – all uniquely individual in style and pictured below.
One student explained about the artist stimulus this term and the work he was creating in the style of the artist based on the theme of movement and waves. The students also talked about the difference between the progress they made at GCSE and A level and stated that they were enjoying the more independent way of studying art at A level and the greater level of choice they could have, which in turn led to more individual creativity shining through in their work. Another student reflected back over her textiles printing piece created with light reactive paint and explained how she was going to ensure even more progress, despite the challenges experienced.
Miss Cole is a brilliant Head of Art and we are very lucky to have her on the staff at Bushey Meads, encouraging and supporting such great progress with our students’ work in this important subject area within the Performing and Visual Arts Faculty here at BMS.
