A sixth former’s intake on vertical tutoring...

Last week at Bushey Meads, we kickstarted our annual vertical tutoring programme! As a school community, we aim to create a kind environment between students regardless of year groups. To create friendly competition for our houses, students were assigned to create a pitch for our next big charity event. Pupils whose ideas were chosen within their vertical forms had a wonderful chance to present them to our lovely heads of houses who then chose the “best” pitch. As a school, we’d like to thank each and every one of our students who came together to cooperate in creating their proposal, all of you have worked extremely hard.

Vertical tutoring was a very inclusive activity that helped the students of different year groups to come together and bond over their chosen project and helped to foster friendships throughout the past 2 weeks. In my group in particular we bonded over our charity and conversed our ideas which helped us grow as a group and let go of any awkwardness, creating a more positive environment where we can talk more freely.

Vertical tutoring was a very interesting and helpful activity as it helped us to speak to people we never thought that we would before. This has helped us to form long term friendships with many different types of people. In my group there was at least 1 person per year so we were able to talk to many different aged people to understand their view on school and other things they may enjoy.

As the month of January begins, the school initiated a 2 week programme of vertical tutoring! Within our group, we brainstormed a range of topics to put our charity campaign into practice. This improved our teamwork and social skills, getting to know other students from different year groups was interesting and boosted our confidence.
