PE CONCEPT of the Week : CONFIDENCE (Heart) Mr Cartledge
The BMS PE and Health Faculty are committed to promoting an active, healthy lifestyle amongst the BMS student population. In addition we also aim to deliver a CONCEPT driven curriculum where the many varied aspects of the HEAD, HANDS, HEART assessment programme are delivered in lessons. Each week lessons have a CONCEPT focus which is taught as part of the delivery of a range of sporting activities.
This focus in the week before half term was looking at CONFIDENCE, part of the HEART strand. During the week all students took part in the Inter House Cross-Country events. We spoke to the students about the benefits to self esteem and confidence that regular exercise can bring and students will feel more positive if they feel fit and healthy. As we continue to promote the benefits of exercise it is important to remember that all children should be participating in a minimum of 7 hours of physical activity per week to maintain their health. PE staff were really impressed with the efforts of the students in the races and students clearly felt the benefits and satisfaction of completing the races. We hope this has contributed to students mental and physical health and wellbeing.
KS3 INTER-HOUSE CROSS-COUNTRY
Well done SYCAMORE House – Champions !!
This year’s Inter House Cross-Country races saw the event take place in good conditions with the rain keeping away for all races and in most cases the sun shining. The effort levels in nearly all cases were really high with students applying themselves really well to score points for their houses. After 6 races SYCAMORE House came out on top with a massive 1459 points beating MAPLE House into second place with a score of 1257 points. For those who find the event difficult we continue to reinforce the healthy lifestyles message and remind students they should be doing 7 hours of physical activity a week to maintain a normal level of fitness. The top performers in each race are entered into the District Championships and we look forward to hearing how they get on over the next few weeks.

The boys showed good spirit and commitment and showed some improvements in their technical skill level. The boys still need to make improvements in game understanding but can look forward to the forthcoming festivals at Saracens RFC to try and build on the positives from todays tournament.
