Year 7 Textiles Students Create Colorful...

This term, our Year 7 textiles students have been hard at work designing and creating vibrant, unique pencil cases that showcase both their creativity and developing sewing skills.

The project has introduced students to a range of valuable techniques and design processes, including:

  • Research: Students began by exploring designers from diverse cultural backgrounds, using their work as inspiration for their own creative designs.
  • Patchwork: They learned how to cut and sew together different fabric shapes to produce colourful designs.
  • Needlework Skills: Students practiced tacking fabric pieces together before stitching, helping them develop accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Sewing Machine Skills: A key focus of the project was mastering the sewing machine. Students improved their hand–eye coordination and precision as they brought their designs to life.

The enthusiasm and creativity shown by the students have been fantastic. This project continues to provide a valuable learning experience — fostering creativity, building fine motor skills, and introducing students to the exciting world of designing and making textile products.
