Year 9 Textiles Project – Creative Tote Bags

Over the past six lessons, our Year 9 students have been working on an exciting textiles project that combined design, creativity, and practical making skills.

The project began with students designing and producing their own printing blocks, experimenting with shapes, textures, and repeat patterns. They then used these blocks to hand-print their fabric, creating bold and original surface designs. Once their fabric panels were complete, students enhanced their work further with stitched appliqué details, adding colour, texture, and individuality to their designs.

In the final two lessons, the printed and decorated fabric was carefully sewn into a tote bag. This allowed students to develop their machine sewing and construction skills while producing a practical and functional outcome.

The finished tote bags are a fantastic showcase of each student’s creativity! Here are a few from our first round of students.
