IT STEM club – Exciting news

Each Friday lunchtime in F4, any interested pupils from any year group can work together or independently on computers to enjoy and develop any ICT and computing skills.

This is what has been happening this spring term:

Teyim and Aleks had passed the first round of the Bebra Challenge last December and in the first week of April, they will be completing the second challenge. Bebra Challenge is organised by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and delivered in partnership with the University of Oxford. The Bebras Challenge introduces computational thinking to students worldwide. Each participant has 45 minutes to tackle a series of interactive tasks, designed to encourage logical thinking and problem-solving skills appropriate for their age group.

Some Year 9 students who are interested in developing their animation skills by learning to create 3D animated objects using Blender software. There are Emre, Kyran and Danyl. Danyl successfully created an animated folding table while Kyran was exploring how to create a 3D person.

Year 11 Jamie who is the senior IT STEM leader joins with some Year 9 IT STEM leaders to plan, create a plastic maze mat and organise the Sphero Bolt Cross-Phase Project which will be launched in April and May this spring. The IT STEM leaders are going to deliver this Sphero Bolt Cross-Phase Project to the Hartsbourne Primary School and Little Redding School this spring under Mr Abusef’s guidance.

Coming up in the summer …..

1. On the 6^th of June 2025, ten Year 8 and Year 9 boys and girls will be visiting the MBDA corporation’s site to celebrate the International Women in Engineering event. The students are going to meet some inspiring female role models and take part in some hands-on mini engineering challenges. The students are already very excited with this trip and I am pleased with their enthusiasm in IT and engineering.
2. We are hoping to invite Jasmine, the Brunel University lecturer to deliver game design and game creation to the Year 12 computing students.
3. The Year 12 computer science and Year 12 BTEC IT students will be visiting Brunel University for a career in Game Design and Film Entertainment events.
4. The IT STEM club is organising a reward trip to Legoland for those who had participated in the CyberFirst competition and also for those students who have been consistently attending the IT STEM club

 I am very much looking forward to the summer to come with even more IT STEM events happening!
